A warm welcome! From day one our stay at this campsite felt like a real holiday. The owners are very friendly, accommodating and do what they can to make sure their guests are having a good time.
It’s a child-friendly place, with several outside playgrounds for children of all ages, a pool and an indoor playroom.
We liked the Cosy Nook Café where one can sit and enjoy a drink or meal from the simple but fine restaurant. There are some nice views as well and lovely villages are nearby.
The owners have obviously put a lot of love in this campsite and it shows.

Thanks so much for taking the time to put your experience into writing.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and noticed the small details which make the site so special. It is especially wonderful to see so many different nationalities holidaying together and getting to know one another.

We look forward to welcoming you back again.

Have been to this campsite twice now in july and would definitely recommend it. Really suitable for families and our 4 kids thoroughly enjoyed it.We have met some wonderful families and kids have made great friends.on both trips We rented one of the mobiles which are centrally located and very well equipped. Facilities are excellent and include tree house sand pit and kids park- particularly liked the green area for games.Beautiful scenery for walks and even a camp site dog to take if you want. Also a good area for cycling
Hosts Pat and Nat are super and very helpful. BBQ evening is worth a visit and camp fire night is really enjoyable. Overall hard to beat this little gem.

Thanks for your entry and delighted that your second visit was so enjoyable.

Seeing people enjoy themselves really gives us a buzz. Most campers make friends very quickly with other families including the children

The new menu seems to be going down well including the few changes we have introduced in order to use local produce even more extensively.

Having never camped in France before, we picked this site from 'Cool Camping' and couldn't have made a better choice. The site is nicely small but with good facilities - decent pool, playground, plenty of hot water, etc. It is really well looked after with attractive planting everywhere, which helps give a sense of privacy in the spacious plots. The barn where the bar is housed and the outside seating area are really attractive & relaxed. The whole site is just very pretty & a lovely place to be and the surrounding area is gorgeous - fields of sunflowers & farmland but with lovely Sarlat & the Dordogne river nearby. Natalie & Patrick run this site with such a laid back and helpful attitude and they deserve the great reviews they get.

Thank you for your immensely positive review of Mathevies. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and that you found our standards to be high in the midst of a bustling season. Our own memories of laid back holidays abroad have inspired us to create a similar ambiance at Mathevies. It is pleasing to read that you felt we had achieved a relaxed atmosphere at Les Mathevies.

Les Mathevies is tucked away in the rolling hills; so tucked away, in fact, that every time we left for a day trip off-site, we never managed to find the same way back! But while being a great location to base yourself for daytrips (the enchanting town of Sarlat or the cave paintings at Rocamadour) you could spend all day pottering around this small and beautiful site. There's a pool, an awesome treehouse, and lovely home-cooked food and local wine on site. The pitches are varied between the secluded and the more sociable; there are al-fresco sofas to chill out on, the facilities are very clean, and the hosts are laid-back and helpful. We left feeling totally relaxed and with a fair few bottles more clonking around in our boot.

ok, hands up we found this place in cool camping France, and loved everything we read about it.
we have 2 pre school kids and wanted to re-create some of our own childhood memories of camping in the Dordogne. so the easy communication with Patrick and Nathalie by email made us feel confident we were going to be lucky.

we arrived a day early - "no worries, see you when you get here" said Patrick on the phone - and immediately the place lived up to expectations. small, friendly, relaxed site, suitably remote, with all the comforts you could wish for on a camping holiday. not sure i can repeat all the detail listed in other reviews, other than to say nothing was overlooked, and the attitude of the whole team is to look after you and keep the atmosphere on site as relaxed as possible. we felt we had chosen well, and met many like minded families who were enjoying a just-off-season family holiday.

when the late summer rainy days arrived the kids playroom in the barn become invaluable. our 2 loved it, and consequently so did we. sitting in a tent in the rain is one thing, sitting in a comfy armchair with a glass of St Emilion and WiFi access is something else.

the domain is well placed for bike rides with or without kids - ride into Sarlat market along winding lanes, back for a snooze or swim. the playground was great, and evening fires were a hit. Patrick and Nathalie gave great local advice, and were friendly perfect hosts. they clearly have a vision of how family camping should feel, and have put their heart into creating something special.

thanks very much for a fantastic holiday. i have no doubt we will return.

Thank you for your review of Mathevies, which was so immensely positive.
We’re delighted that you had a great holiday and that you felt our standards were high at the end of the season.
2013 has been a great time for us packed with sunshine and delightful visitors. It seems strange to drive into an empty campsite and to be occupied closing down for the winter, but we have lots of plans for season 2014. So watch this space!
Like you we both remember laid back family holidays – Patrick in France and Natalie in Australia. These memories were very much in our minds when we embarked on the Mathevies adventure and so it is particularly pleasing that you felt we had created a similar ambiance ourselves.

It’s a shame Trip Advisor doesn’t allow for a rating of up to 10 as we would give Les Mathevies a full 10 out of 10, so we will settle for 5 out of 5 – This place is fantastic!

Coming from a city of supposedly the world’s best hotels and resorts where no expense is spared it always great to go back to grass roots of nice personal Indi hospitality which cannot be created by 5 star corporations; Patrick and Natalie have created a wonderful oasis.

We stayed in one of the older chalets, a Davey Crocket, which was beautifully located, peaceful and full of charm (including the wall clock which had a mind of its own..). Everything felt relaxed and easy particularly for our 2 year daughter Daisy who was nearly in tears to leave after making many friends and having so many new experiances.

In terms of the site the all the facilities were excellent, pool, showers (although the cabin had its own, our friends camped and gave positive reports) café / bar. The bar served an excellent pint of Jupiler and Leff as well as Patrick’s personally selected wines – all of which were at very reasonable prices (Point to make that one reviewer complained at the price of a pint – the price was lower than all the other bars we saw in the area), all drinks were accompanied with a perfect selection of Nu Folk – Jose Gonzalez etc to watch the sun drop over the surrounding hillocks.

Plenty to do in the area for, lots of walking, great running and tourist attractions for all ages (the list is endless) so no worries if the weather turns for the worse.

With high airfares a consideration for us on any holiday we have to research and make sure it’s right. Prior to the booking Patrick and Natalie were extremely helpful in answering our questions and make sure everything would be good.

Les Mathevies is a real labour of love that has been done brilliantly. The best summary we can give Les Mathevies is my wife Debbie said that it was the most relaxed she had been since the arrival of our daughter 2.5 years ago.

We’re so pleased you enjoyed your late season holiday at Mathevies. We have noticed an increasing number of families with pre-school children are opting for a September holiday when the schools have gone back and life in the Dordogne is a little gentler and more tranquil.
As you mention there was plenty of company on site for yourselves and your daughter.
Great that Debbie as well as Daisy managed to relax here!

We stayed here for two weeks in mid-August in one of the mobile homes. I had read lots of good reviews before we booked and I was not disappointed. The mobile home was quite small but spotlessly clean & had everything we needed. The site itself is lovely - small, safe, friendly and easy going.

The kids had the time of their lives (aged 3 & 6) and us grown-ups actually managed some serious relaxation & socialising. The only drawback was the difficulty in extracting our children from the site in order to explore the area! - they would quite happily have stayed on site playing in the tree house, sand pit and swimming pool and taking Maisie the campsite dog for the odd walk. The Cozy Nook cafe/bar is lovely - we enjoyed many an evening sampling the wine & freshly prepared food whilst the kids played with their newly made friends (sorry to the previous reviewer - my son was probably one of the head-torch wearing tree house dwellers...).

I can't understand previous reviews saying that this site is too out of the way - the Dordogne & Vezerre Valley are both within easy reach and there is plenty to see & do in both. We would definitely go back & think it was well worth the long journey to get there.

Thank you Natalie & Patrick for a lovely holiday!

Delighted that you managed to find Mathevies without any trouble and were not deterred by our quiet location.

As you discovered once visitors have unpacked they quickly get to know the lie of the land and are surprised to find so much to do at a short distance from Mathevies.

Also thanks for your positive comments about the Cosy Nook and our food and drink. We do aim to offer good service at fair prices and it is great to have your endorsement on this.
