Not too many places to stay in Kilchoan and didn't really check reviews before booking this hotel.
It is a tired looking place though new windows show an inclination to update. Alas the room we were allocated was on top floor, the camp ceiling was broken and no attempt to sort or make better. The bathroom had bath only and no shower, the tap on the sink dripped non stop and in general it was not very clean. Bed linen was good and bed comfortable. Breakfast not a great experience as crockery was greasy and plastic glasses for juice! On hindsight should have complained at the time but not very clear who to direct this to as the barman seemed to be the person to talk to and didn't feel he should be subject to hotel complaints.

Room Tip: Look carefully at room before agreeing to stay.

After a very long drive from Glasgow, all we really needed was a comfy, clean bed and a good dinner. We didn't get that.... We got a beautiful, spotless and fresh four poster and the most delicious fish and chips you'll ever meet, served up with the coolest presentation and followed up by criminally gorgeous tablet ice cream. There are actually no superlatives to properly describe the view from the room but it's by far the most beautiful you could wish for. Karen and Connor, the young couple in charge, couldn't do enough for us and made our stay extremely enjoyable. Don't miss out... Visit the Kilchoan. We can't wait to go back in the summer.

After ordering food at the bar (no service apparent in lounge) waited an hour and half still no sign of our starters. Gave up and left after having to request money back since we had paid after ordering. Never again will we visit this hotel!!

I phoned to enquire about times for Sunday lunch at the hotel and was very surprised to learn that the hotel was not serving lunch today. This is a Sunday in April and there are plenty of visitors about as witnessed at Nadurra visitor centre yesterday, which was full. Local businesses need to be a lot more on the ball as dining opportunities are few and far between in this area and visitors will just move on and out of the area if basic facilities are unavailable.

Stayed in the area for a week and found this gem of a pub . We ate there several times including a roast dinner on the Sunday. Beer was excellent , although we were bemused on the 1st night , when the beer was placed on the Guinness "head activator" Locals frequented the pub and made us welcome. Only disappointment was the live music didnt materialise. Oh well, that s an excuse t o return as if we needed one.

Visited for dinner on a Sunday evening in October half term whilst we were staying in the local village for a few days. We went in at lunch time to book a table, as we had trouble finding somewhere to eat on the Saturday evening.
We were told there was no menu that evening, just a roast or a vegetarian option. The roast was enjoyed by all but I opted for the vegetarian option which turned out to be half a stuffed courgette!?!
When it came to pudding time we got told there was nothing left but they had some ice cream in the freezer!
Service was good and friendly but to be honest I felt the lack of choice of places to eat in the area had lead to a lack of any real effort being made to give us an enjoyable experience.

Rebecca D, Manager at Kilchoan House Hotel, responded to this review, 20 November 2013
Dear AWilliams 1978,
Thank’s for taking the time to review your recent visit to the hotel.
We are sorry that not all components of your meal were as they should be and that the choice was limited. This is purely down to the quieter time of year (or so we thought) and wanting to avoid waste on freshly prepared food. We endeavour to provide a fresh vegetarian option at all times and are really sorry that the Stuffed cougette did not fit the bill on this occasion. We are sorry also that all we had left was ice-cream for dessert. We were very busy that day with a considerable amount of walk in business that took us by surprise. Nonetheless, it's no excuse especially as you had the ‘foresight’ to book a table earlier in the day. We will take this all on board and learn from this. I have passed on your feedback to our kitchen team as well as we strive to improve.Thank you also for your balanced remarks regarding the rest of the food and service.
We hope that we are able to welcome you back to the Kilchoan Hotel sometime in the future when we will certainly have more on offer than ice cream for dessert.
Your Sincerely
Rebecca Deboys

We visited here for dinner one evening while staying nearby. The best fish and chips I've had in a long time. The fish was fresh out of the local waters that day and looking at the beautiful location of Kilchoan, that made it even more appetising. I reckon their missing a bit of a trick by not making a house special tartar sauce.
