We've staid in six different places during our travels in the Azores and this was by far our favorite hotel. It is located just outside of Madalena, and the view is absolutely fantastic. It's a fairly small apartment style resort, our flat was ocean view from the main entrance/living room while the kitchen was facing mount Pico. On a clear day you can see the top of the mountain and the neighbouring islands all from the same apartment!

The nice thing is that the resort is sustainable and modern. It is very clean with a lovely pool and all of the staff are very friendly. The apartments are specious with a separate living space, equipped kitchenette, and a large tub. There is also TV and complimentary WiFi which comes really handy when it's cold out. We look forward to staying in Baia da Barca in the summer, April proved to be a little chilly for the islands overall.

Room Tip: - There are a lot of wrong addresses on the internet so just make sure you use the one here or on th...

Stayed in Madalena mainly to do some diving and whale watching. Madalena is not the most interesting town but the water experiences are very good.
Baia da Barca is a new apartment hotel that have some very large and modern apartments. Ground floor is a larger living room with couches and tv. A fully equipped kitchen is integrated. Second floor had two large bed rooms with a large balcony. Small but nice pool area. Restaurant only for breakfast which had a limited choice but overall acceptable. Service was friendly but reception only open for a limited time.
Only negative thing was the location which was in the outskirt of the city. If you didn't have a car the walk to the centre of the city was through the industrial area.
Will certainly recommend the hotel for travellers that have excursions during the day and who wants a quiet place and possibility to relax with own food after a busy day.

A day or a couple of days trip from the island of Faial. Take the boat, rent a car at arrival and go around the island. If you are really passionate for walking, find a organized tour to go up to the top of The Pico. Visit the vineyards, the museum and have a glass of red wine and take a bath in the Atlantic ocean.

Room Tip: Any apartment is good. Ask with view to the ocean.

The hotel is in a peaceful location, right on the ocean. It's a 10 minute walk from town, or a very quick drive. We arrived from an early interisland flight, and they let us check in at that time. The apartment was very spacious, included a nice kitchen, living room, bathroom, and bedroom. There was wifi for free. Breakfast was quite nice, and included eggs, meat, breads, jams, fruit, etc. Parking was free and located near the room. There is a seawater pool and a sauna. If I had to give some constructive criticism... the AC/heater was only in the bedroom, so the rest of the apartment could not be temperature controlled, and the TV was extremely small and in an awkward place on the wall. I'd recommend a bigger, better placed TV.

Very comfortable and modern apartment-style accommodations. Seawater pool was nice and the views of the ocean and Mt Pico are phenomenal. I think it's a bit pricey, but was well worth it. I definitely recommend this place and it has more charm than the other main hotel in Madalena.

Family of 4 stayed for 9 nights early August 2011, 2 bedroom apartment. Clean, beautiful pool, likely one of the best views on Pico. Having visited the Acores 25 years ago, 5 years ago & once again this August I can fully understand some of the less favourable comments posted on other reviews. However, I must comment that the economic growth, availability of products, etc over the last few years is nothing short of astonishing. The service industry is in its infancy - not only on Pico but throughout the Acores. (For the adventurous - the time to go is now!!) For these reasons I make allowances. From my perspective the property is less of a 'hotel' and more of an upscale apartment facility. Perfect balance - breakfast is served, rooms are cleaned, fresh towels/linens, pool/hot tub/sauna, well equipped kitchens, central location, walking distance to Madalena/taxis. True, the staff is not doting; I believe you'd find it difficult to find doting staff anywhere in the Acores. However, all you have to go is ask & they are only to willing to oblige. Cheap, it was not but I feel it was money well spent in relation to other options on the Island. Tip: There is a Solmar grocery store in Madalena - stock up on the Terras de Lava wine which is made locally. (Don't get discouraged on the short walk to Madalena, it is not a particulary 'pretty' stretch of road with it being so close to the habour & tuna canning factory!) We will definitely book at Baia da Barca on our next visit. Special note to my Belgium wine buddy & friend: weather cleared the next day (Wednesday), Tony & the girls climbed the mountain! Bragging rights in order... awesome experience!!!!

Stayed here in July 2011 and the location is awesome.
But a bar open till only 17:00 - but honesty let me say that the bar in fact is inexistent.
Hotel rooms with plenty of space but only one closet with 6 hangers to put all your stuff is rediculous, it may be sufficient if you travel alone but when traveling with a family you end up putting most of your stuff everywhere on the floor.
Pool (salt water) is a beauty but it escapes me why there are only 6 beds provided for so many apartments?!
The rooms are very clean, good beds, airco present.

Taking all into account I expected much more for the price they charge.

Room Tip: Ask for seaside bedroom
