A Casa do Ouvidor

We stayed 4 very happy nights here as a family with 2 teenagers. There are 3 sets of accommodation sharing a pool just off the main road.
The house is an old traditional farmhouse which has been converted in a very modern way inside with all the modern conveniences you could ask for. However if you want old traditional this is not for you.
There is free wi-fi, a hot tub, the pool is shared but we did not mind this as the other 2 family were not very noisy.
The patio area outside 2 of the cottages is shared and the other house is quite close.
The view across to San Jorge is amazing and we just sat there and enjoyed the view.
We did not find any road noise at all even though it is just off the main road as some others have reported.
There is no where to walk to eat so you need a car but self catering is easy and there is a BBQ with wood supplied on the car park level below the pool.

Spacious house with of lot of small details like many interesting books on the Açores islands, a nice fruit bowl, tasty fresh local biscuits. Confortable bed. Owner took time to explain Pico and gave us useful tips and restaurant contacts.
The kitchen storage is made for tall people as being small was a bit difficult for me,this a small detail.
Spectacular view, many walks around.

Room Tip: Private house

The place is very nicely done. Wonderful architecture outside, very original décor and design inside. Excellent facilities, nice comfy beds, lovely bathrooms, superb kitchen, nice furniture, wonderful view, lovely swimming pool. Everything seemed to be very nice.
The big, big negative point is its location. The place is directly located on the island's main road. From 7 to 9 in the morning it is heavily trafficated (on holidays I want to sleep and relax at this time!!), and so it is between 17 and 19 hrs.
There are countless dogs making noise, also in the late evening and often at 2, 3, 4, 5 in the morning. It was just impossible to sleep, and to find peace there. At 5 in the morning a cock is waking up the whole area, and so do the dogs. Prrr, it was my worse experience on Pico when we talk about peace. Very disappointing, and I was really upset as the place is expensive but does not let you rest and relax. Houses are to the left, to the right and at the back. Noise from there as well.
After 3 nights the owner woke me up at 10 in the morning, telling me that until 13.00 hrs I should move to another unit as they made a mistake with another booking. I told him kindly that I prefer to look for another place to stay, feeling quite upset and offended by their behaviour. The other day he promised me that I could stay in the blue house for 9 nights, but then he changed idea. It's an unprofessional, unrespectful way of treating guests and therefore I can not recommend this place. It is nice to look at, but the circumstances of noise around as well as the behaviour of the owners didn't enthusiasm me a lot. On top of that, the rate on booking.com was 105€ per night. The owner wanted to charge me 125€. I told him decently that on booking.com it is just 105€, and at the end I paid 315€ for 3 nights. Go for "Adegas do Pico", it's close by, more charming, more typical and much, much more quiet, and José Maia is a much, much more hospitable and respectful hotélier.

The acomodation is ok but not the genuine house we were looking for.

The house has a nice view. The village is a bit dull and with no access to the sea. No decent restaurants within walking distance.

It is hard to get in touch with them by phone.

My husband and I so enjoyed our stay at Casa do Ouvidor. Lovely spot, terrific view, refreshing swimming pool, nicely decorated, and fully equipped kitchen with the things you need in the house with a comfortable bedroom, bed and bathroom ensuite. The owners couldn't have been more helpful and charming. But really life in Pico is truly the best.

Room Tip: Get the room with the view of the swimming pool and Sao George; the night sky and wind are lovely.

"A Casa do Ouvidor" keeps only the walls and the bucolic spirit from the old ruins that were the origin of the name: rebuilt with total respect of traditional architecture, have all the comfort amenities we look today for a nice week in a beautiful island like Pico. Equipped with all machinery needed (from dish washer to clothes washer) and decorated with good taste and functional solutions, the common areas are beautifully designed with a big swimming pool, a hot Jacuzzi and even a barbecue area!
The service was friendly and nice, present when needed without imposing his/her presence, what gives you the "ownership" full sensation.
After climbing to Pico Mountain, arrive to the house and jump in the hot Jacuzzi...unforgettable!

At A Casa do Ouvidor we were received as if we were family!! The place is amazingly beautiful, cosy, clean and welcoming. All our breakfasts were taken with an astonishing view of the ocean, nature, and S. Jorge island.
The hosts thought about all the possible details that can make your stay unforgetable and they are super super nice and gentle. Pico is an amazing island to visit, with a lot to do: hicking, diving, whale watching, etc.
