I wonder why cocks crow so early in the morning. To assert their authority? Are they insomniacs? Anyway, crow they do. Three times? yes. Three hundred times ? more likely.
This is not a complaint. It is an introduction to the world of Eastbrook Cottage.
Maryanne was our horse and Rolling Stone-loving proprietor; Her husband Bill(?) is a down to earth and affable landscape gardener.
We arrived about 4 PM on a Friday to be greeted with a very generous selection of scones and cakes. The B&B boasts a small living room which had a very efficient log fire which blazed forth feet within a few minutes of being lit. This made us extremely lazy and we dozed off in front of it.
There are two rooms; one is a double room facing the main road which is about 25 m away and the other one, a twin room, faces the amazing chickens. Although they made noise early in the morning it was a natural noise so to speak and we did not find it disturbing. The hens are let out at daybreak are very keen to partake in their first meal of the day. As dusk falls they line up in front of their huts and march in obediently. It is great entertainment.
I am a great fan of organic food and it was very rewarding to eat the eggs from these chickens. Breakfast itself is substantial and cooked to order. The eggs as you would expect were delightful and fresh. If you want to visit Bradford-on-Avon, Devizes or even Warminster this is a good base.
