Visited on an overnight spa package after being a guest previously a couple of years ago. I have to say the hotel has gone very downhill and is in desperate need for an update. All décor is poor, cleanliness not great, Jacuzzi and pool dated and unclean and we were really disappointed. The Jacuzzi was filthy!
The staff were friendly and the treatments relaxing but the rooms are like they haven't been updated since the 70's with very uncomfortable beds.
Such a shame because the location is great. The break itself does provide value for money but will not be going back until it is updated!

After being greeted by an over friendly receptionist boarderlining a little annoying I was pleasantly surprised by how good the dinner was. The junior manager was also good. The room wasn't great very basic with only a mixer tab for a shower which took 10 mins to get hot water tgen went freezing cold. Definately won't be back.

What a great venue, so much better than a modern block hotel. Big room, friendly staff, nice break fast, really good value. It is not a 5* plush, perfect hotel, however has lots of character with really good surroundings. It is good to support locally owned hotels.

I came on an overnight health break with 5 friends. We have been coming to Fieldways regularly for approximately 12 years and have always received excellent service until now. On this occasion only the treatments we had in the spa were fantastic and couldn't be faulted, the staff here were excellent. However the stay in the hotel was quite the opposite. To begin with there was no key available for one of the rooms as a previous occupant had apparently taken it with them!!. Therefore the security for the people in that room was compromised. My group had booked our evening meal for 7.30pm. We were called in for our starter 20 minutes late and then had to wait for well over an hour for our main course, which when it eventually arrived, was nearly cold. This was only three of the six main courses ordered, the other half of the group had to wait even longer and we had finished ours by the time theirs arrived. The dessert was ok but then we weren't even offered tea or coffee after the meal. We were told that the 'chef' was on his own and struggling. My response to that would be 'get someone else in then'. We were a group of six and the only group there so if they can't cope with that many, how would they cope if they were full! The saga continued the next day at breakfast when we had to help ourselves to cereal and toast (ok not too bad, but...). There weren't any plates and the orange juice had ran out and not been filled up, the tea and coffee (which were in thermos flasks) was stone cold, there was no butter on the table and one of our group ended up going into the kitchen to get it for us. After over half an hour we had to ask to order our main breakfast!! When a member of our group finally managed to speak to the Spa Manager about the problems we had been experiencing, we did not receive an apology and it was only when we refused to pay for the desserts that we were offered vouchers as compensation. None of us wanted vouchers as this would mean that we would have to go back and we didn't want to subject ourselves to such appalling service again. The receptionist didn't seem to know what she was doing and charged one of our group for someone else's bill!. We had all come on the Health Break to relax and re-charge our batteries and ended up leaving more stressed than when we arrived. We were all very disappointed with the service received. If you are thinking of coming here I would think twice. I do not intend to return again and will look elsewhere.

Room tip: Go somewhere else!

We picked this hotel as it had a pool and was dog friendly, also because of the proximity to Bath.
I have to say the staff are very helpful. However the hotel and how it is run leaves a great deal to be desired.
On arriival we were shown to our rooms which we would not have found on our own as the hotel is like rabbit warren.
The room was adequate and the bed comfy. The toilet however was a 'Macerator' and very noisy. I had to go and ask at reception for a spare toilet roll, batteries for the TV remote and a hairdryer. The receptionist did not know where the hairdryers were kept, but one was found by the yoga teacher.
On returning later from a meal in Bath I had to ask a man who was cleaning the toilets where the receptionist was so we could get our room key. The person on duty said he wasn't sure but went to look for the key in reception.
The room had not been cleaned and there was dust on all picture frames skirting boards and the carpet, the bed had not been made the next day and the towels were left untidy on the rail.
This is a lovely old building with such potential but it is obvious that there are no checks on standards by the manager or owners.
