Attraction details
Owner description: The Dartington Hall estate is a 1200 acre mix of farmland, woodland, commercial spaces and residential accommodation. It is home to 25 acres of Grade 2* listed gardens, which are open year round from dawn till dusk. With a rich sense of history and a host of delightful features – from a new bridge by artist Peter Randall Page to a sculpture by Henry Moore to 500 year old Spanish Chestnut trees – the gardens at Dartington are worth exploring all year round. The Dartington Hall Estate also houses 41 listed structures. Public access to some buildings may not be available but any that have received funding for restoration are accessible when possible, and many buildings can be visited if participating in an event.

“Idyllic couple of days”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

A birthday gift from my wife, two wonderful nights. Room (Rm 4 West Wing) comfortable - especially the all important bed! - and well provisioned (although an extra bed side lamp would be welcome). Breakfast pretty Ok in the White Hart, supper there so much better than some of the scathing reviews might have suggested, the gardens are blissful (particularly in the early morning when you have the acres all to yourself), staff friendly and helpful, all in all pretty wonderful - felt chilled out and happy, will certainly be heading back. Shame it ended so soon !

“Stunning extensive gardens....”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

The gardens are wonderful - ornamental, formal and wilder areas to explore with seats tucked away quietly, so you could easily bring your own picnic.

The original tiltyard (jousting area) is amazing.

Signage needs increasing and improving.

“Beautiful place”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

Second time back and something feels different, in a good way. Came here last year and the service was not good, but because the hotel was beautiful we decided that we will give it another try. It turned out to be a good decision as the service everywhere has improved markedly. I am believe this is due to new management. Well keep it up Dartington.

“Beautiful Gardens”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

What a beautiful place! we went when the primroses, and blue bells were out and the Acers were a lovely red. Lovely lawns and private areas. The area is not particularly big but coupled with a stay at the Dartington Hall, it makes a lovely break.

“Our daughter's wedding, 26th April 2014”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

Our daughter was recently married in the charming Upper Gatehouse at Dartington. We were unable to use the immaculate Private Gardens because of the weather, but began the celebrations in the Solar, and then moved to the Great Hall for the wedding breakfast. We, and some of our guests, had experienced communication problems with Dartington beforehand, but on the day, they pulled out all the stops. The Catering Manager, Steve Brown, was friendly, charming and efficient (I think this is his usual style, judging by the way he looked after us when we came for our tasting session) and the three course Wedding Breakfast was superb; Rebecca Smith, the Wedding Co-Ordinator, could not do enough to help and support us; the corodination of all extraneous services (florist, Registrar, musicians and photographer) was impeccable, and the General Manager, Tej Walia, watched over everything for us. The venue itself, of course, buildings and gardens, is breathtakingly beautiful, especially in the spring. Thanks to all at Dartington for a first-class experience.
