Liz & Laura provided an excellent welcome, the hotel is very pleasant, good clean rooms (big improvement on the old Travel Lodge that used to be here). Nice breakfast in the morning & amazing crib facilities!

Have just returned from a weekend at the Metro hotel and I must say it is a great place to stay for a break. The bedroom and the bathroom were beautifully furnished, and the beds were soooo comfortable. Lots of nice little extras, toiletries, tea, coffee, biscuits etc. The staff could'nt do enough for us to make our stay enjoyable. Great location for sightseeing walking and shopping in Cardiff. Will surely be returning very soon.

http://www.bestwestern.co.uk/docs/petfriendly.pdf This is not a dog friendly hotel, even though the web site says it is!!! http://www.bestwestern.co.uk/docs/petfriendly.pdf on the 26th September I booked 2 nights at Best Western Pontypool, arrival date 8th Nov. We checked the Pet Friendly list and Pontypool was listed (and still is, see web address above) but to be double safe we phone the contact number at the top of the web site and double checked. We arrived at the hotel last Friday to be told that they definitely where not a dog friendly hotel and hadn’t been since July when the hotel was refurbished. After the staff (lovely staff friendly, helpful and very pleasant) had discussed our dilemma with the supervisor we were invited to ‘phone’ the manager. She strongly advised us that no way would she allow a dog into the rooms and that the web site no longer had Pontypool as a dog friendly hotel. The twin room has very narrow beds, not really big enough for an adult.

We recently stayed at this hotel overnight, while travelling to West Wales and were very pleased with what we found. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, the newly decorated hotel was very attractive and welcoming.
The only small issue was the lack of tables at breakfast, as the hotel meals are served in the lounge bar, so the tip is - eat early!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are lovely and quiet

Spacious room with very comfortable bed and good en suite with bath as well as shower and lovely big fluffy towels. Well equipped accommodation even down to small details: washing line over the bath, bottle opener, effective hairdryer. Very clean and good quality furnishings. No problem finding it - our sat nav took us straight there. Ample secure parking. No lift, but easy, wide staircase. Ask for a ground floor room if that will be a problem to you. Convenient that a range of nice meals, reasonably priced and with locally sourced meat, is available in the evenings in the bar/breakfast area. Good range at breakfast, mainly continental but also bacon, scrambled egg and baked beans on offer. Nice touches, such as choice of whole or skimmed milk. Generally a very good, relaxing experience.

Since being refurbished as a Best Western, this former lodge is a great place for a short stay. The rooms are far above the normal standard you would expect, they're as good as the nearby but much more expensive Parkway. However, you have to accept that there is no proper bar or restaurant. The reception serve bottled beers and wines etc and there is a limited range of meals they prepare from the freezer plus a daily special, all of which you eat in the bistro style reception area. Plus there@s a KFC and MacDonald s next door and a Beefeater over the road. The staff are very enthusiastic and friendly. A great value stop for one or two nights. Though the main road passes close the double glazing does the trick so long as you can do without an open window.

Myself and a number of colleagues have stayed at this hotel during and since the refurbishment.

I speak on behalf of all of us when I say this hotel is excellent. The rooms are a good size with pleasant furniture, comfy beds and pillows and fabulous soft furnishings which give the hotel a homely feel.

The TV's are good and have full freeview, free wifi is available in the rooms, however this is a little slow.

The reception staff are all very friendly and keen to help.

I haven't eaten here yet, but the Starbucks bar is also great.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. Having stayed at many in the area, this is by far the best and I now travel further from work just to stay here.
