“Very good hotel”
Reviewed 21 April 2014 via mobile

Great location to go and explore the Brecon Beacons, lovely tidy room and great service from everyone.

Buffet style breakfast was brilliant and we even got a free Starbucks coffee and cake for each day we stayed.

I would strongly recommend.

This hotel is ideally suited for short breaks. It provides good clean accommodation at a very reasonable price.
We were staying for two nights I would certainly stay there again when next in the area.

I am staying here with my husband and 2 friends for a 2 night break. The hotel is very clean and compact. It has been good for exploring the area. We had a lovely day today visiting Monmouth and Usk. Yesterday we went on foot along the canal for an hour and a half which was very scenic and stopped off for a light lunch at the Open Hearth along the canal which is a very bustling little pub/restaurant with plenty of charm. The first night we ate at the India Garden which cost £6 in a taxi to get there and well worth it and tonight we ate at the Horse and Jockey and again worth a visit which cost £ 5 by taxi one way.

Room Tip: You will here the traffic whilst staying here because it is next to a dual carriage way but it didn...

We stayed in a family room with a bed and a cot. There was enough space and the room was well decorated. Particularly impressed with the quality of the bed linen. We were overlooking the main road and I was a little worried about noise, but this proved to be unfounded. Very clean-apart from one dubious hair in the bathroom (seemingly fallen from the shower curtain!).

Only downside is there was only 1 large and 1 small towel provided and similarly there were only 4 milk tubs- not really enough for a family of 4. However I'm sure we could have asked for more and given the price this really is nit-picking (£48 for the room)!

Location wise, as others said fast food and Harvester on the roundabout. Useful to know there is also a big Tesco one roundabout away, great if you've forgotten anything.

Breakfast was billed as continental but actually included; cereals, bacon, beans, boiled or scrambled eggs and pastries. A good choice. There was a booking system, as it was expected to be busy, we ate early and it was very smooth and calm but also continued to look this way when we were checking out about 9.30am.

Overall, fantastic value for money and highly recommended.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the stairwell as we were woken up by people walking along the corridor in the e...

Just a stones through away from the dual carriageway, the Pontypool Metro is ideal for those who need to take a break from a long journey. The hotel has plenty of amenities just a walk away, including a fast food establishments and a fuelling station. So not only can you refuel your car, but you can also let the lovely staff at the Pontypool Metro look after you as well.
The hotel comes with plenty of parking, which is secure for all guests.
The reception area is combined with a bar, a Starbucks and seating area to enjoy a light lunch. All the bedrooms have been recently refurbished, making the rooms as upmarket as a city centre hotel. With the Pontypool being a fairly small hotel, the staff have such big personality that certainly makes up for the size of the building. The general manager, Liz is fantastic at what she does and she genuinely cares about the hotel and its success.

We have just had a two night mid week stay here and used the hotel for a base to go and see other nearby places. We were extremely impressed with the quality and comfort of the hotel bedroom and bathroom. The breakfast was fine, plenty of choice and never too busy to find a table. On the first evening we ate at the Harvester which was very busy. The second night we drove a couple of miles to the village called 'New Inn' and ate at a pub called the Teazer. Food there was home cooked and excellent value, and the staff and other customers were very welcoming.

Don't hesitiate to book this hotel, or to visit the Teazer pub.

Room Tip: Although other reviewers have mentioned the noise, we had a room on the road side and it didn't...

Booked through well known "voucher site" so excellent value for money - even their standard rates are good. Room spacious and good quality - better than many standard chains - e.g. Premier Inn.

Staff were welcoming and friendly.

Located on an A road next door to a garage and several fast food restaurants its pretty easy to find and Pontypool very close by as was a Harvester restaurant just a a few minutes walk. This was very good value as was the India Garden in Pontypool itself which was excellent - could have probably walked this.

The self-service breakfast was very good with fruits, cereals, scrambled egg, bacon and options to boil eggs and make toast.

Bad points - the overall cleanliness of the hotel was excellent but one of the towels provided was very poor and kettle not clean. Also one of the waitresses was way too fast at clearing plates - whilst we were still eating!

Overall a very pleasant stay in a good quality hotel - highly recommended.
