On arriving at this beautiful hotel, we had a hicup with the room, booked for one night but we had booked two, fortunatly the room was free on the Sunday so that was a disaster avoided. We all decided to go to the Zest resturant which is located within the country club area along with the James Baird Bar. We were told we would have to wait for a table and so we went to the bar. Staff were friendly and we had just got our drinks when they came to tell us a table was avaliable. We were seated under a ventilation shaft wich was blowing cool air , when askedto turn it off they did but only for 5mins. When the food eventually arrived the bride the to be and myself had ordered Mexican chicken burger which came without the quacamolie and the salsa, when it eventually did arrive it was obviously from a well known jar widely available in supermarkets. The chips were the frozen variety and just warm. I must say ..the chicken was perfect.
The salt and pepper squid was also off the frozen variety and could easily had another job as an elastic band...the gnocchi could have been used as the pellets. .
The stag party could've used them at the pigeon shoot.lol..All in all not good value....

We have just stayed as a group of 10 spending a Xmas shopping trip away. We were greeted with hot snacks on arrival, our rooms were lovely with double bedded twin rooms and well equipped with everything we needed.
We booked dinner in the first night and were set up in the private dining room which was beautiful and looked after by Jamie all night.
We took a taxi into Edinburgh booked on each occasion by David the concierge and nothing was too much trouble.
I shall be back with my husband in 2014 to sample the golf too, a great hotel and great deal!

The hotel was lovely, can't complain about anything. The staff could not do enough to make you feel welcome and make your stay fab! The room was beautiful and the food was too! The grounds and scenery are enough to help you chill out and relax. We will be back as soon as possible! We loved it and kids loved it

We stayed at the Dalmahoy for 1 night before heading into central Edinburgh for a further 2 nights. The hotel is set within stunning grounds and has a luxurious country house feel to it. We stayed in the very impressive Lady Mary Suite - this room really did have the 'Wow Factor' All of the staff throughout the hotel were very helpful and friendly, breakfast was delicious and there was a wide choice of it to choose from! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing, romantic break and would love to return back again!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a Period Room in the Main house for a real treat!

Lovely stay at the Dalmahoy. Shame the pool was closed for refurbishment which we didn't know up front but perfect family stay. Would love to come again. Very family/kid friendly. Bad drinks are pricey with a glass of wine at £7.50. That was a bit of a shocker

Used an ITISON voucher for a Champagne afternoon tea for 2 people recently.
The entrance to the hotel is impressive, & the grounds are beautiful. We sat in a lovely lounge area with polite, attentive service.
As we had dietary requirements ( allergic to cheese & chocolate ) the sandwich selection was limited to smoked salmon or ham. Would've been nice to have egg mayonnaise & chicken options as well. Lovely warm fresh scones & a reasonable selection of cakes, some of which we took home as we were so full!
The champagne was Moët, but not served chilled as it should be. The tea was served in metal teapots instead of bone china, which was a shame. There was no menu for your tea or coffee selection, which again was a shame.
It's this attention to detail that would raise my rating from good to excellent.
The only reason I'm giving this review 4 stars is because of the lovely service. Otherwise, my rating would be 3 stars = average.

We stayed for a 3 night break- what a delight. The approach through the lovely and quiet grounds is superb and the hotel building at the end is wonderful. Our reception was great, both by the concierge ( keep the Scottish staff) and by reception staff who were friendly and efficient. We were helped to our room which was very nice and comfortable. Staff were always on hand to help throughout our stay.We ate in the Pentland restaurant on our first night- again the staff were most helpful when choosing food and wine ( they knew what they were talking about which can be unusual compared to some other hotels). The only down side of our stay was when my wife decided to try Cullen Skink as a starter to be advised by the waitress that quite a few guests had complained that the potato in the dish is raw. It was explained that they are only lightly cooked but that is how the chef says it should be and the dish is very nice- so my wife went ahead. Well the potatoes were almost raw and ruined the taste of the dish- could not taste the fish. The waitress said that they are seeing how many guests complain then the chef may change it. Sorry chef- wrong decision- time to change it now. And we had no feed back from the kitchen when we complained- that is not good. The rest of the food was very good and fully lived up to description and expectation. The wines were also excellent although nothing really special for the price. The breakfast buffet is extensive and well presented for both traditional and continental. All in all a great weekend at a lovely, well run hotel.

Room Tip: Outward facing and a higher floor

Thank you very much for your feedback and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the Cullen Skink on our new menu in the Pentland Restaurant. The potatoes are cooked al dente, and then very thinly sliced, which we appreciate might not always be to the guest’s liking. As this menu has only been in place for a couple of weeks, we are taking the feedback on board and we do act upon feedback such as yours to improve the guest experience.
We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
