“Beer like this in heaven?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 October 2013 via mobile

Discover this place...a simple full day trIp from Munich. Out in the country near a beautiful lake. A must visit if you like excellent beer, good food, beautiful surroundings, and great views. But take care, a liter of their double bock will put you on your butt...just one! Tip: they also serve pints so you can sample all their brews. Start with their helles, then wheat, then single bock, then double bock, then good luck!
Don't drive or make sure you have a driver who does not drink. In fact, take the train, then a bus to the top of a steep hill. You can walk but may enjoy the overall experience by riding somehow. The food is too good and beer too strong to walk back.
Oh, there is also an attractive church at the very top of the hill that is easy to miss...you have to go by the beer first!

“A strong beer in a monastery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2013

Being in Munich and not going to Andechs to eat a a weisswurst, bretzl and drink a beer is the some that going to Rome and not see the Pope.
This place is famous beacause of the church that is the oldest in Germany and of course because of the beer. It is great being in the big beargarten.
They are not open for dinner.

“Tasty Bavarian food accompanied by excellent beer”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2013

Take the S-Bahn railway all the way to Herrsching (approx 45 minutes) and avoid the temptation to take the bus - instead follow the well signposted uphill path to this spectacular site. After visiting the monastery enjoy a hearty meal in the Klostergasthof. The Sunday we visited was particularly busy so we were glad we reserved a table in advance.

Service was efficient but not totally devoid of warmth. The menu offered a range of traditional Bavarian fare with some of the best pork knuckle we sampled on this particular visit to Germany. The Andechs beers are delicious and certainly fortified us for our walk back to Herrsching. For those who may find the walk to / from Kloster Andechs then there is a bus alternative from Herrsching station but it is worth while researching timetables to ensure there is a convenient train / bus connection time.

“Excellent excursion from Munich”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2013

A premier location to get out of the city for a day. Drive down to the Ammersee and walk around before heading up to the holy hill and sitting in the beergarden with a view. Have the Haxn and drink the Doppelbock, but remember to bring a designated driver!

“Go early for a real Bavarian breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2013

What a blast! Tourists and locals gathered together enjoying weisswurst (the white sausage that is only served before noon), pretzels and fantastic beer. Locals gather to talk, some in traditional Bavarian clothing, dogs sit at the feet of their owners hoping for a bite of pretzel, and tourists enjoy a fantastic spread. The people are friendly, the beer flows like a river and the views don't get any better.
Andechs is not to be missed.
