This is our second year visiting Cogne and staying at the Hotel La Madonnina del Grand Paradiso. We had such a wonderful experience that we brought friends from the US this time. They were equally impressed and we all look forward to another stay here.
Our room (#6) had wonderful views over the valley. There was a lot of closet and cabinet space as well.
The food for breakfast and dinner was some of the best we have experienced throughout our travels! The menu was in Italian and French, but Vittorio took the time to translate every item on the menu...and did a great job! The next day, a English version had been printed out. I was impressed at the effort to make sure every detail was to our liking. We left the wine suggestions to Vittorio, who consistently chose a fine wine at reasonable cost.
The wellness center is beautiful. We made sure that we visited there every day. Fresh juice and fruit were always there. There is a beautiful relaxing room with tea and soft music. A pleasant place to unwind and read.

If you are looking for hospitality and personal service, we can recommend this family-run hotel Madonnina. We stayed there for 3 weeks in January and got a fantastic cervice. The restaurant keeps a high level with great variety on the menu. The spa area is impressive. Cogne is free from charter tourists and après-ski, you can relax in an authentic environment. Cross-country skiing is fantastic. Madonnina was a warm and homely hotel after a long day out.

We did visit la Madonnina recently and the overall expeirnce was exhausting. The hotel is very beautiful, we do recommend to stay in the newer part which has awesome rooms overseeing the Cogne valley and the panorama is really worth.
Our room was a superior and we did pay 250 for half board with 2 kids. Price was acceptable, place was beautiful, Cogne is a very nice village in any season but the people running the hotel needed to do another work and are not at all capable to run such an amazing structure in a proper manner.
The personnel both at the Spa and at the Reception was the most ungentle I've ever seen. There has been only one guy at the Spa who was nice and gentle.
Spa timelines are unacceptable for family with kids (made clearly to avoid kids around are they match usually with naps time). Once in the Spa kids are treated like demons and can't do anthing, eat some bread, amuse themselves in teh pool or play around. Absolutely undoable with kids although what the personnel does not understand is that an hotel with an indoor swimming pool is what families with kids search for while in vacation in the mountains.
The only positive note has been the restaurant crew absolutely wonderful and amazing with kids: they paid attention to them and ensured they were served before adults so really appreciated. Really the unique star of the overall structure.
I just wanted to mention though that this way of running the hotel not matching family expectations is a true pity as the structure could really be a pleasant place for a fmily vacation both for parents relaxing and kids enjoying.
The hotel has an underneath play room where kids can enjoy the after dinner especially in the winter season when after a skying day they like to still play but without going out in teh freeze.

Tks for reading!

We spent a family holiday here, stayed for 7 nights. Food is very good, very abundant and varied breakfast. Spa is excellent, indoor pool, jacuzzi and hot tub are perfect, together with all the other amenities. The staff at the spa are very friendly and helpful. The only downside I would say are the rooms that are rather small and although clean, could do with a face lift.

Room Tip: Ask for the newly refurbished rooms!

Our second stay in Cogne this year (yes th hiking is beautiful there!) and we selected the Madoninna instead of the more upscale Belvedere this time. Of course the standing is quite different but the Madoninna at less than half the price is nevertheless an excellent choice: The room was simple but large and comfortable enough, although the bathroom was quite poorly equipped with a very small shower (in an otherwise large space). More important the service is very friendly the brand new spa area is very nice (but closes early) with a beautiful view and the breakfast is not bad at all. The location, a mere 3 minutes by foot from the center of the village is perfect. Altogether a sensible choice for a very reasonable price, nothing to complain about and, for once an hotel in the top of its 3 stars category.

Stayed here for 4 nights in June. Had a huge room with a decked balcony which had a sun lounger - it was absolute bliss to come "home" from long walks in the local parks, have a bath and then lie out in the sunshine enjoying the view of the snow-capped mountains. The room I had was in the new part and it would be suitable for a family group - the room is on two levels with beds upstairs and downstairs.
Breakfast was an absolute delight, several fruit juices and a vast selection of cereals, bread, ham, cheese and fruit together with fried eggs, sausages and bacon. Even though we weren't there in busy season and the hotel was far from fully occupied the selection and quality of the breakfast was outstanding.
Evening meals were also lovely and the wonderful host selected some excellent wines to accompany the meals. All the staff, from Lukas (one of the two waiters during our visit) to the receptionists and cleaners seem to enjoy being at La Madonnina and take pride in their jobs. Their English and my Italian a little rusty, but we were able to communicate enough to fully understand each other. Really recommend this hotel for its food, comfort, staff and location. I hope to return in the future.

We stayed for one full week in late July - we are familiar with the area and chose La Madonnina from the booking.com and trip advisor recommendations and descriptions. We were completely delighted with our spacious room and the beds were a great delight (rather than the usual 'boards' even the best city hotels seem to chose!) English is not particularly spoken in the Gran Paradiso area but the helpfulness from all the desk staff and the waiting staff broke all linguistic barriers and ensured our every whim was met. Then there is the food.... i miei complimenti per il meglio cuoco e personale meraviglioso attesa ...... We were provided with an English translation for the menu and my husband and I worked our way through just about everything and somethings twice! Delicious. Every mouthful. I mean every single mouthful. My husband and I have eaten in some pretty special places but for variety and surprise and for consistent quality, this is one of the very best restaurants (we dined the other night at Raymond Blanc's place and neither of us enjoyed it half as much as our lovely meals at La Madonnina) I don't say this lightly - I can usually see the things that are not the best but can overlook them if the overall experience is good but there was nothing to find at dinner or at breakfast here.
We also loved the charming and quietly efficient spa and after a hot day hillwalking, the pool, jacuzzi and hot tub were most welcome. We loved the whole visit so much that I'm enrolling in Italian classes so I can quiz the chef next time we go (Deo volente) My teeth are still watering just thinking about the risotto with basil cream........

Room Tip: ask for a front facing balcony
