it was very nice to visit this small restaurant, the fondue was great and i wish i had space for more, they have a nice wine and bear list, the staff was great and the price is fair.

“not friendly”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

My least favourite restaurant in Cogne , maybe we had been spoiled by all the good service and good food in this region , but we never returned here , no real atmosphere and we were all getting a bit frustrated trying to get any service even though we had booked a table for eight , well used by locals so maybe that is there market and not tourists or maybe it was just a bad night , The food was ok but unmemorable really .

“Great potential”
Reviewed 16 September 2013

This place is super cosy and has a great potential. I am not sure management in place is super careful though. Although it might have been an unfortunate coincidence, we had to wait too much for being served, and the honest reason was that several tables sat down all together. Understandable, but at this level of business, you need to be ready to handle it better with more than 2 people serving in a restaurant like this. What we had was ok/good. The very entrance was cooked rushed (quail eggs) and was extremely sticky and overcooked in the lil cast iron pan, gets a 5. The mixed salad with anchovies sauce was a good choice, gets a 7. The veal chop was cooked well, although no big flavor, required addition of salt gets a 6. The valdostana steak special was very thin, yet tasty but here again, quite unflavored, gets a 6. The wine pairing was ok, but didn't impress us. I had to get up and chase the super busy waitress to get some salt after waiting for 5 minutes, which is not ok. Overall we were not happy but would give them another chance to prove better as I am sure it was just an unlucky night.

“Some of the best local Aosta valley gourmet experience”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

I have been visiting this restaurant regularly during the last four or five years (mind that the name "bar" actually conceals a restaurant, not a bar at all), and despite the menu tend to be almost invariable I can also find something new to taste or taste again.

You will find dishes and wines very typical of the Aosta Valley, with daily fresh ingredients. Challenge yourself with the 18 or 26 sample plate(s) of local types of cheese, wonderfully described and presented by Maurice, the long time maitre de table and local resident. Or try the wonderful Valpelline soup, or challenge yourself and your partner to a wonderful raclette (goat or cow cheese available). Mind that most dishes are available only for two persons, so bring along at least one person to fully enjoy the menu.

The ambiance is extremely nice and very romantic, very local, lots of wood and local utensils al laround the walls used in the preparation of local cheese, and has a wonderful view over the mountains and the greens around the village of Cogne. Especially recommended at sunset. Service is excellent, English and French fluently spoken, besides Italian.

Closed from around the end of September until the first week of December, it's highly recommended to visit if you happen to be in the area, even if you are not just passing by Cogne itself.

“Good but relative expensive cogne restaurant”
Reviewed 3 April 2013

We joined the Bar a Fromage for a meal last week.
The staff were very professional and friendly.
Although our meals were certainly OK, I must say the prices are more on a Belgian standard, meaning almost the double of what we're used to for Aosta.
So good quality, but price/quality certainly not the best choice in town.
