Hotel Diana Pollein

Second time we have stayed here and somehow failed to review this wonderful hotel the last time.

Ideally placed for us travelling to and from Greece either coming into Italy via the Mont Blanc Tunnel or returning to the UK using the same route on the return leg.

Safe off road parking, that is always a must for us. The hotel situated on the relatively quiet road in a quiet village is family run and is exceptionally clean, professional and of a very high but non- pretentious standard. Our room this time was again on the front looking out towards Aosta and the snow capped mountains beyond. Our welcome at reception was warm and friendly and genuine as before, they actually remembered us from the previous visit. Our room was warm and the huge bed is a wonderful blessing after a long drive. Television but no English stations. The fastest internet we have experienced in the many hotels we have stayed in, so fast we didn’t need the non English speaking TV and streamed BBC and ITV through the laptop with no blips at all.

We had dinner in an excellent restaurant called ‘Aquolinae’ (please see separate review) just below the Hotel

Very quiet at night so all things being equal a good nights sleep is more or less guaranteed.

Breakfast is included and is more than sufficient; we saw the fresh croissants and bread arriving early in the morning. Not sure who was overseeing breakfast, we suspected a member of the family, but a very charming and warm and helpful lady.

Frankly enough said, an excellent Hotel fairly priced and is a definite for continual usage on our trips to and from Greece, love the place.

Room Tip: Just a thoroughly good quality hotel with lovely people running it.

Stayed here on 14th September for one night as a stopover place. Not knowing the area we chose the option of staying on half board basis. This hotel has parking which was useful as we were travelling by car. Since we were travelling with kids, we were accomodated in two rooms. The one facing the front of the hotel had a beautiful view both in the bedroom as well as in the bathroom. The other room which faced the back was slightly smaller but still had an impressive view of the mountains. This hotel was so incredibly clean I was genuinely impressed. It seems to cater for coach tours too but this does not detract from the hospitality of the hosts. We ate there at dinner time and the meal from a set menu was delicious. Breakfast was also really good with a selection of fancy breads, tarts and cake, cheese, cold meats and fruit. I wish we could have stayed here for longer! I could not fault it in any way!

My wife and I stayed there for our honeymoon. Unfortunately, while we were there, there was construction being done to the building next door which started at around 6am and was extremely loud. Also, garbage trucks seemed like they were beeping throughout the night continuously. We lost two nights sleep. We are not people to complain, so we toughed it out for two days, then had enough and had them switch our rooms. After they switched us, the stay was very comfortable. Word of advice....get a room away from the alley.

This is a lovely hotel, good value for money, but only suitable for travellers with cars. I usually travel by train, and did arrive in Aosta by train - it was a 12 Euro cab ride out to the hotel, which is really not at all in Aosta. However, I was joined by a friend with a car, and it is a great location if you have wheels, with a good view of the town of Aosta and the mountains. Our window faced the mountains, and the view was very picturesque.

The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful - they spoke French as well as Italian; not much English though. Good breakfast buffet, delicious coffee. Very clean rooms, comfortable beds. Not luxurious furnishings, but more than adequate for a couple of nights.

I've stayed in many hotels in the Aosta valley and this is probably the best for quality and value. Its a very Italian hotel, we were the only English people in the hotel and the staff did'nt speak much English. It's a very clean hotel and the restaurant serves local dishes at cheap prices. eg starter, pasta dish, main and wine all for 16 euros. Its not in Aosta as many maps suggest, its 2km out in a small affluent village called Pollein. Will stay here again.
