From the moment we arrived we knew we'd made the right choice. Hector kindly showed us to our room. No. 225 which was spotlessly clean with fantastic views from the balcony towards both the mountains and sea. Large rain shower, aircon and comfy bed and electric shutter blinds which helped keep the room cool and nice and dark to sleep.
Everywhere in the hotel is immaculate. Stunning pool area and the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly.  Excellent staff who will do everything they can to help and give you advice on how to make the most of your Kefalonian holiday.
The hotel is situated amongst farm land and only a 10 minute walk to the beach front where you can find plenty of places to eat.  We ate at the hotel one night in the Rose bud bistro which was very nice, very good Stifado. Just round the corner from the hotel is a great Greek Taverna which we ate at 4 nights out of the 7 Persa's highly recommend trying this. See my separate review.
We hired a Jimney from Venus car hire for 3 days. Pre booked via email through Costas. Great service excellent vehicles and only a couple of minutes walk from the hotel.  Loved being able to go where we wanted when we wanted and you do need to get out and see the Island as kefalonia is beautiful.
Koroni beach is not far by car where the turtles nest and where you will find a great Hill Top Bar Sesto which also serves food which had amazing views and is very relaxing and worth a visit.
We would return to katelios and would most definitely stay at the Magnolia Hotel again.

We have to agree this is a really lovely hotel , you will not be disappointed . Please don't be put off by silly comments about breakfast , if you want a full English then go to Blackpool !
Everything has already been said about how wonderful this hotel , management and staff are so we won't go on about that .

Please do not spend a week laying on your sun bed , hire a car and take a look at this wonderful island . There are very few cars on the road and the speed limit is only 40kph so you can take it nice and easy . Hiring a car enables you to visit secret beaches , Ektor ( the owner ) will happily tell you where these are .

We had some lovely meals in Katelios , the hotel restaurant is good but our favourite is a 5 minute stroll down the road to Jerry Elliniko's , they have a good range of meals that are very fresh and tasty , all the desserts are homemade ( yum ) and the staff are very friendly .

Please visit Poros , there is a lovely little cafe bar called Remetzo where you can sit on decking right over the water and feed the fish . Also a visit to Agia Efimia is a must along with Fiskardo , both are very pretty .

This hotel is a great base from which to discover the island , it has a lovely pool area that is great for relaxing by at the end of the day . As for the comment about it not being typically Greek then we ask you to sit in the bar on an evening and take a look at the architecture of the hotel , it has been lovingly designed by Ektor to resemble a Greek amphitheatre and that is exactly what it does.

Finally , Happy Hour is a great time to chat to other guests and the barmen Kyriakos and Dionysis.
We will definitely be going back .

We spent one week at the Magnolia Resort hotel and were met by the owner who advised that it was a family run hotel. He personally showed us to our room which was clean and very well presented. Within half an hour we felt very relaxed amongst the friendly atmosphere. We explored the area and during the week tried most of the tavernas which we found to be of high quality and very reasonably priced, especially the wine!! We hired a car for two days from the local hire place just down the road and explored the rest of the island. The journey from Sami to Asos through the mountains was stunning, well recommended. Ketaelios was not touristy, very laid back and ideal if you want a quiet holiday which we did. We will certainly be coming back and would like to thank Ektor and his family for making our holiday special (and all the staff).

We recently returned from a 11 night stay and it was perfect. I agree with all the positive comments that have ever been written about The Magnolia Resort. It is a new hotel and will only grow to become even better - especially when all the fruit trees start bearing their offerings. We ate once in the restaurant, through choice, and the food was very nice and good value. We both had the best nights sleep for a very long time - the electric shutters are fantastic at keeping out the light. Nothing more to add other than we will return.

Room Tip: All rooms are great.

We have just returned from a 10 day stay at the Magnolia and fully intend to return next year but really hope they will look at the catering side of their hotel. The breakfast is very average with no variation and wonder why, if they will only serve tinned fruit it has to be peaches every day. Some good bread rolls and better quality cheese and cold meat cannot cost such a lot more and we personally would be willing to pay a little extra to cover this. The pool bar snacks are poor (beware of the burgers) and we only had 1 evening meal in the restaurant which lacks any atmosphere and cheap tiny serviettes and no wine coolers. Now you may wonder why we would return, but the place is beautifully furnished and clean, the staff are really friendly and the family are always there to help, this gave us a most relaxing enjoyable holiday in lovely Katelios, so if we need to eat out so be it but we think the hotel is missing out on extra revenue. Anyway will soon be booking our return visit .

I'll start by saying that anyone who rates this any less than 4 stars must be VERY hard to please, this hotel is everything we were hoping for and more! I've literally just got home from a weeks stay here and I couldn't wait to review it on here!

ARRIVAL/CHECKOUT: Fantastic, quite frankly. Ektor (a very friendly greek-canadian guy) met us at the door as our taxi arrived and took our bags to our room. We got to the room and he gave us a fairly detailed explanation of everything we needed to know about the room and the hotel without being overbearing. Check-out time is 12pm so there is plenty of time to get sorted on the day of departure, there's also a room to put your luggage until you leave.

ROOMS: We stayed in a 'premium room', when we booked it we didn't actually realise we had booked a premium room so I would imagine there isn't much of a price difference between those and the regular rooms. Our room had: a vaulted ceiling, a DVD player, king size bed, fridge, daily supply of tea, coffee, milk, water, biscuits and crackers (brought every day at around 4pm) and as good a sea view as you will get staying at the Magnolia.

Everything is spotlessly clean, even though the hotel has been open for 3 years it still looks totally brand new. Very tastefully decorated with shabby chic style furniture and comfortable bed linen. On every room there is an electric metal shutter at the window (so simple yet a genius idea in my opinion!) as well as a mosquito screen. Not one mosquito entered our room through the entire holiday. The only bites we got were from nearby restaurants!!

FOOD: We were bed and breakfast and like many others have said, the breakfast is probably the hotels only downfall as the choice is limited and is never varied. However, it is a fairly small hotel so to do a massive spread of food would be costly to them and would probably be wasted. If you're happy with toast, cereal and a hot drink you're set for the day. The cooked selection of scrambled eggs, streaky bacon and beans leaves a little to be desired but ok for 1 or 2 days.

We had 2 evening meals which we paid extra for at the hotel, couldn't fault them at all however I can't speak for the choice if you're half board but what i do know is that whatever you get it is freshly cooked.

ENTERTAINMENT: They have a happy hour from 6.30 to 8.30 every night where a selection of drinks are quite heavily discounted, wednesday night is a pretty good singer, monday night is quiz night and thursday is movie night. Most people go to places like kefalonia to experience the surrounding tavernas etc. so to be honest I don't find entertainment of high importance.

OVERALL: The pool area is very tastefully decorated, I have yet to find a pool in any hotel which is 'warm' but who wants a 'warm' pool when you go in to cool off after being laid in the sun!? This isn't the place for games, it is very quiet and I got the feeling if I jumped into the pool i'd get some pretty funny looks! People obviously come here to totally chill out, we found a lot of the people weren't the most friendly of guests but maybe that was just us getting the wrong impression? The owners are very friendly, we didn't find anyone to be stand-offish or anything like that, they couldn't do enough for us!!

If you like quiet luxury places, The magnolia resort is definitely the place to go!

TIP: If you have a premium room and you like to watch films take some DVDs with you as they have a selection but it's quite limited.

Room Tip: Pay extra for premium if you can.
