The building and grounds are beautiful. Close by Gilligan's island and the Dry Forest. The corner room on the second floor was small and tired but the bed was comfortable and clean. There didn't seem to be much hot water in the morning for a shower. We didn't use the pool but it looked nice. We didn't eat in the restaurant but the staff were friendly. The check in could have been alot smoother and the front desk staff were not that helpful with info about kayaking in the area. Wi-fi only worked near the reception. There are hammocks on the grounds that unfortunately were wet. A nice addition would be to hang a few hammocks on the balconies near the guest rooms. Overall this was ok for one night for the price ($100) but I would not stay for an extended stay.

Stayed one week at this parador ("Tropocal Inn they call it). The rooms are average, no fancy features, TV has a few channels (1 or 2 in english), all furniture is old, the place looks old but is kept clean, meaning no crawling insects that we could see. The air conditioner worked great which is a must due to the high humidity and mosquitoes in the area. Bathroom was remodeled and adequate with the usual giveaways and clean linen. There is a small gym that nobody uses, a nice swimming pool (the highlight of the place) but no other outdoor activity areas. The premises are located by the seashore but there is no beach, not even nearby boating facilities, you have to go to Gilligan's Island for that (ask around). The dining room is better than expected, great service but food is average at best. Never ate anything other than breakfast. Our room was not ready (we got there before check-in time) but they offered us one anyway which they had just cleaned, DON'T DO THAT! They use a heavy duty cleaner with an awful smell and it takes several hours for the smell to fade away, even at night there was a strong odor, but bearable. This is by no means your standard two or three star mainland hotel, but if you are looking for reasonable rates and a location in the PORTA DEL SOL area, you are in the right place. Don't go to nearby La Parguera Inns, they are sorry over-rated places. The overall service at the Guanica Parador was great and they will try to accommodate your wishes if they can. And there is an adjacent wine & music place for adult entertainment.

Room Tip: Ask for a second story room, they are slightly more expensive but roomier and have a better view.

We enjoyed our stay at Parador Guanica. But note that this hotel is not for everyone. The room was spacious and clean. It was on the second floor and there is no elevator or bellhops to help with bags, which was fine with us. However, If you have trouble with stairs, ask for a ground floor room. There is a very nice swimming pool that children were enjoying. The room cost includes meals, which is good because there are not a lot of places to eat good food nearby. The food was good but the dessert flan was the worst flan I have ever eaten. They do not have a liquor license - something about being too close to the church across the street. So, if you like to imbibe, be sure to bring your own. The dining room has a dark and claustrophobic feel so we chose to eat outside on the porch. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The hotel has the ambience of bygone days. It is set on a former sugar operation of some kind and there are refurbished cane benches all around. The landscaping of the property is not manicured but interesting with some huge, old trees. At sunset, the mosquitoes came out in droves. So bring bug repellant. There is a small playground for kids. I recommend this hotel to families with kids. There was nothing to do after dinner so I wouldn't recommend this hotel to persons traveling solo.

This is a jewel no one really knows about. Having stayed in San Juan at the Caribe Hilton and in Rincon, my husband & I agreed, this place in Ensenada was by far the best. It is quaint, personal, clean, friendly, and very professional. We felt very much at home here. When we return, this is the place where we will stay. The food is fabulous. The staff extremely warm and accommodating. I highly recommend this place to everyone.

We really enjoyed this place. I was a little worried because, while most reviews were favorable, a few complained of a “moldy stench”. This was absolutely not so. In fact, upon thinking about it, it would be difficult to have mold in the rooms, since the Parador is located in the dry area of Puerto Rico. We found the staff extremely helpful, never failing to fill our needs. For instance, we found the room exceedingly cold and could not change the air conditioner setting. When we spoke to the person in the office, she explained that they have the settings locked down and we could not change it…but she would be happy too. She came to our room and did adjust the temperature to our liking. We also found that our shower was not working properly and reported it late at night. The next day they did fix the shower and it was fine. We thought the room was exceedingly small and were surprised that some people we met there did not agree with us. We checked out their room, they had two full beds with plenty of room to walk around. We had a king in, what must have been, a smaller room. There was not extra room. I suggest that you request a room with two full beds. That is what we intend to do when we return next year. And we will return because: the cost was extremely fair, the breakfasts (which we pre-purchased) were hot and satisfying, the staff was accommodating. We did meet people without a car and they were stuck, because this place in not within walking distance to anything, restaurants, beaches, parks…nothing. But if you have a car it is just a short drive to the dry forest, Gillians Island’s boats, Guanica.

We stayed for three days. The rooms were pretty small but who spends time in the room during vacation? Just a place to hang your hat. Meals were good, but not great. Adequate to get you going in the morning and at lunch. Very good service in restaurant. WiFi does not work except by front office. Bring a cable. Can't control air conditioning temperature.... seriously. Hot water was far from hot, but manageable.

The Bodegas Andreu winery next door is worth the quality of the rooms though. They are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Excellent wine and food. Great views. Great music.
