This was the first place we stayed in Shropshire when we visited 30 years ago - so thought it was time we went back even though we now live pretty close. The ownership of the hotel has obviously changed but it is now a wonderful balance of original features and modern comforts and good food. The garden is wonderful on a fine evening - fantastic views into the Shropshire hills. Our newly renovated room was beautiful - best hotel room I've stayed in for a long while.

Everything about the hotel was excellent. The attention to detail from the staff could not be faulted and was matched by the very willing attitude. Our dog was made as much part of the holiday as we were and it was lovely that he could be with us at meal times. The views were superb as was the location. We learnt a great deal from the daily newsletter awaiting our arrival at breakfast. We considered our bed and breakfast tariff to be excellent given the amazing quality of our room (number 5). Only wished it was closer to our home so we could visit more often.

Enjoyed three lovely days in the charming town of Bishop's Castle. Our base for two nights was The Castle Hotel. The welcome was warm and the room was lovely with a great shower and a stunning view across to the hills. The hotel has real character. On arrival, we noticed pretty pots of flowers had been planted and placed on the stairs leading to the front door. A simple thing but it was just one example of attention to detail and how the owners care to make the effort to welcome new guests. We would return and have already recommended to family and friends.
By the way, around the corner is a nice gallery, a great little antiques shop (with handsome owner at the helm), the Three Tuns pub with brewery, marvellous second hand book shop and other delightful shops. The locals are very friendly. Oh and pay a visit to the interesting chap who makes Clun chairs

Beautiful hotel room 3 10 out of 10 you can sit in the roll top bath and look out over the magnificent views of the Shropshire countryside. The food was excellent , staff couldn't do enough for you, and there were the little touches such as a daily newsletter of local things going on in the area that day. Beautiful terrace and garden perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine. No negatives would highly recommend .

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the car park have excellent views of the countryside.

A top place to stay if you have a four legged walking buddy in tow. Really friendly staff, great food, good beer, lovely gardens and even dog biscuits in the bar so you are all happy. We were given good suggestions of where to walk and even proper maps of the area to get you right out into the countryside. You get a sheet of news in the morning with the weather forecast and suggestions of what you can do. The dog was upset there was no sausage factory to visit but a walk up the Long Mynd cured the disappointment. Loved it. They even lent us a torch in case the dog need to get out in the night!
