Castle hotel is set on the hill overlooking Bishops castle and offers great views of the surrounding country side, especially when sipping ice cold white wine on the , private,
residents balcony.
Our room was situated at the top of the hotel and was spacious and comfortable with all the requisites a guest could possibly need . En suite of course. Its small window also offered views across the town to the hills of Shropshire. As far as I am aware the hotel has no lift but the stairs are wide and stately, assistance with luggage is on hand if required. All staff were very helpful at all times.
Breakfast, freshly cooked, consisted of anything the guest requests and was superb.
We also had evening meals at the hotel and were offered a wide range of dishes. What we had was delicious and the other offerings looked excellent. Our steak was cooked perfectly but I would have to say it was some what pricey.
Shropshire offers many choices of walk to the rambler from strenuous hill walks to gentler strolls through forests. Walkers welcome every where.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Top floor is quietest. Room 8 very pleasant

When we checked in we were really pleased as the room is exceptional and staff very friendly and helpful. Our great disappointment came with the restaurant which, having an interesting menu we found the meals to be poor. There is definitely a training issue in the kitchen, we really felt that the food was not worth the money (sloppy moussaka which looked as if it was poured out of a tin, pasta swimming in watery tin tomato juice, the mushrooms for breakfast looked deep fried, lumpy thick chunks of goats cheese on lettuce with no thought to the finesse of the dish, breakfast muffin hard on the edges which often happens after microwaving...I could go on...). We stayed two days but on the second day my partner refused to even order a breakfast. The following day we stayed at the sister hotel where the food is absolutely wonderful (suggestion - the chef at the sister hotel visit the Castle Hotel and train the cook). For such a lovely environment and atmosphere it is such a shame the food is not right. We mentioned this to the staff on leaving but they were not interested in our comments despite all the positive praise we had given to the rooms and staff - we were brushed off without any care or feedback on what the issues were. Disappointing.

Room Tip: The rooms have been updated to a high standard.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay at The Castle Hotel. I’m glad that you were pleased with your room and that you found our staff friendly and helpful during your stay.
I’m disappointed that you felt our meals were not of a high standard. All our food here at The Castle Hotel is homemade and freshly cooked by our team of highly trained chefs. We feel that our Moussaka has a rustic feel to it, served in a traditional bowl with a Greek salad accompanying it (it is actually our most popular and complimented dish at the moment) and we strongly believe we offer excellent value for money across all our food offerings. I can assure you our breakfast muffins are not microwaved, they are simply toasted under the grill before being served.
If you had raised any issues regarding either the breakfast or the evening meals at the time we would have been more than happy to rectify the issues you have raised, it is obviously very difficult to do this retrospectively upon check out or via Tripadvisor.
Thank you for your comments regarding our sister hotel The Pen-Y-Dyffryn, we take pride in serving our customers traditional home cooked food here at The Castle Hotel whist The Pen-Y-Dyffryn offers a more formal dining experience and we understand that this may not suit everyone’s tastes, nevertheless we are still very proud of our dinning experience and have a great reputation for our food to back this up.
Please be assured that we have taken all your comments on board and have discussed these in detail with the whole hotel team and we are confident that any of your highlighted issues will not be repeated again.
Kind regards
The Castle Hotel

Visited here just recently the beer garden has good views over the countryside and gets very busy.
The food was first class and they have a good selection of real ales and the staff are very pleasant and friendly .
You are recommended to book at weekends and you can see why, the fish was delicious. A must when in Bishops Castle.

We are delighted that you were able to enjoy our lovely garden, it certainly is an attraction in itself in Bishops Castle as the views are amazing, if I do say so myself!
Your comments about the food being 'first class' are a pleasure to read and shall be passed onto the chefs. We hope to see you again in the near future as we have a fresh fish menu available on Thursdays & Fridays… another opportunity for you to try our ‘delicious fish’.
Kind regards

We've stayed at this hotel before - since our last visit, they have added some more rooms and we were lucky enough to stay in the brand new "master bedroom" which was beautifully decorated and super comfy!
The food was excellent - something for everyone on the menu. We ate our starters out in the garden with fab views over the Shropshire hills. The wine list is well priced and we had a couple of excellent bottles - Tanners Claret is always a winner!
Can't wait to go back.

This characterful hotel has an enviable location at the top of the hillside town of Bishops Castle, with wonderful views across the Shropshire countryside. On my two-night visit I found the staff very friendly, and the quality of the food in the evening very good and served in generous portions.

With our friends we spent 3 nights at the Castle Hotel. We had rooms in the attic which were very comfortable although very hot and fans in the room as standard would have been very welcome, however I must admit that the hotel did find a fan for me when asked. We ate at the hotel each night and the food was delicious and the breakfast was excellent too. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and could not do enough for you.
The weather while we were staying at the hotel was very hot and we were able to take advantage of the patio areas to sit and relax in. The garden areas at the back of the hotel were superb and the views breath taking.
We would definitely recommend this hotel and it is ideal to use as a base for touring.

Lovely one night stay en route from Oswestry to Wiltshire. Very dog friendly hotel in beautiful Shropshire countryside. Characterful building, great service, delicious breakfast. Our room was quite small in the attic, but it was busy and we got a very reasonable room rate. If I was staying longer I would go for a bigger room. Overall a great place.
