Description: If you want to eat out in Bishops Castle look no further - Shropshire has a long history of culinary excellence. Shrewsbury has a plethora of good restaurants, and Ludlow is just down the road, which for a time boasted more Michelin starred restaurants than London itself! We don‘t do Michelin at The Castle, but we certainly use many of the same local suppliers. We’re spoilt for them actually. What we aim to produce is modern, good pub food that is healthy, hearty, flavoursome and fresh. And great value of course. And you’ve a wide choice of places to eat at The Castle. Each of the three bars has its own individual character, some with open fires, some with terraces out into the garden. Or try our oak panelled restaurant, believed to feature in the Mary Webb novel “The House in Dormer Forest”. And when the weather is warm, and remember it’s always sunny in Shropshire, our beautiful south facing gardens with fantastic terrace and raised fish ponds provide the perfect spot for a light repast and a cooling beverage.

visited on a saturday night with 3 adults and 3 young children. staff were friendly, beer was good. we ate outside on the terrace which I had not known was there previously. It was a lovely sunny day and all enjoyed the experience.
the food was well presented and the choice was good. will definitely return.

“Great pub food”

Fish was fab, steak brilliant, a well priced wine list and of course the real ale on hand pump. Choices for vegetarians, what's not to like?

“A real gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2014 via mobile

Whilst we were staying in the hotel we ate in the restaurant as we'd heard good things about it. We were delighted with the excellent food and service. I particularly enjoyed eating from the fresh fish menu, but I did covet my husbands homemade hand crimped pastry which topped his pie! Well worth a visit we will definitely be back.

“Disappointing visit”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014

Came for Sunday lunch and left disappointed. Starter and dessert weren't too bad but the roasts were (for want of a better word) "lazy" with minimal veg & only potatoes served as roast veg alongside tough tasteless meat. Beef was vastly overcooked and given scrag ends and sides of the joint - even though we were guaranteed it would be pink and moist whilst ordering.
Waitress was friendly but unfortunately this didn't make up for the very poor food.

“Good food but exspensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2014

The food here is very good but you pay for it. The service is very good and friendly. The only downside is the price, a bit on the high side for the amount of food you get. Does get very busy at peak times.
