“Wonderful B&B, pleasant surprise!”

This is a great place to stay if you are walking in the area or visiting for a wedding (as we were).. The house is lovely and has a very interesting history- the rooms are timbered and pretty. We appreciated having a small couch in ours, a nice touch! The hosts were friendly, very good recommendations on local cafes, etc. The town itself is lovely and friendly- the galleries were great!

We had a winter break in this wonderful B&B. The historical house is lovely, the hosts really friendly and the breakfast different, delicious and generous. The room itself was lovely, specious with sitting area and a luxurious bathroom. We were given a tour of the house, with some of its fascinating history and that of the town. It's right on the main street of Bishops Castle itself, which is a great place to stay, with excellent pubs.

Spent 2 nights at this absolutely beautiful house on the recommendation of a friend. Gill and John were very hospitable, helpful, personable and just great people. The room was (as with the rest of the house) just a visual delight with stunning traditional features. The breakfast was more than I could have wanted (literally) and what I had was simply delicious, fresh and high quality. Free wifi; all the facilities you could need; good parking; a peaceful town - there is no doubt that I will be going back!

Spent a wonderful weekend in this fabulous house. Gill and John are very friendly. We were shown our room then offered tea and wonderful homemade cake. The breakfasts were great - made from top quality ingredients. We will definitely stay here again and can't recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: Blue bedroom is at the back of the house and has a wonderfully large 2 person bath with loads of hot...

We have attended the Bishops Castle beer festival for the past 3 years....we have camped the previous 2 years but fancied a bit of luxury this time (a brilliant decision considering the awful weather we had been having!)
The beer festival is staged by all of the pubs in the town, they all run along the main street which itself is situated on a fairly steep hill....the Porchhouse is located about halfway up the hill.

The Porchhouse is a beautiful old building, lots of gorgeous oak and character.
Very creaky and sloping floors but that just adds to it.

We had the Blue Room with its fab big bath (for two!)
It has a huge super kingside bed, very clean and comfortable.
Tea,coffee and biscuits in your room with fresh milk & water in the little fridge.
Breakfast was lovely..lots of choice

Will definitely return as we have already booked for next years beer festival!

An absolutely stunning old and original property - full of character and atmosphere. Large bedroom with anti room and huge bathroom. Off road and secure parking. We were made extremely welcome. Lovely breakfast and I really enjoyed the eggs Benedict. Wish we had had more time to explore Bishops Castle but on our way to John O'Groats so couldn't stop. Would go back if we are ever in the area.

The only thing average about this place is the price. Everything else exceeded our expectations. The building is very old and has been beautifully restored. We felt priviledged to be able to stay in such an old building. However if you don't like floors that slope and creak, steps in all sorts of places and low doors the Porch House may not be for you.
We were made very welcome by John and Gill and had the choice of the two guest rooms. We chose the red room on the front of the building which was fine. There have been reviews saying that it is noisy, and there was some noise from the Vaults opposite one afternoon about 5pm. I think we only heard it becasue all of their (and our) windows were wide open. We didn't hear anything at night, but then the second night we were in their until chucking out time ourselves listening to the band. You may hear the town hall clock which strikes the quarter hour all day and night, but it isn't loud and you soon learn to ignore it.
Breakfast was excellent and Gill and John source local products as far as possible. We liked the sausages so much we went to the butchers down the street and bought some.
All in all a lovely break. We would go back.
