“Weekend in Redcar”
Reviewed 9 December 2013

Stayed here Friday and Saturday night, party of 4, 2 adults and 2 children, stayed in a family room. The room was clean and comfortable with a big flat screen TV on the wall, great when you have young children. Breakfast was cooked to order and was very good, also ate in the bar, again food was very good.Although there were Xmas functions both nights we weren't disturbed by any noise.
We enjoyed our stay and thought that O'Gradys is a very well run, family friendly hotel and we will certainly be returning.

The rooms are basic and showers are very small. Considering O'Gradys is known for its food the breakfast was very disappointing and the staff were vacuuming while we were eating. They then proceeded to have a conversation , shouting over the top of the vacuuming. The function room is a good size and there was no problem with the service during the evening. However this was overshadowed by the rudeness of one of the staff at the end of the night. This was compounded further by the managers refusal to admit that his staff had done anything wrong and arrogantly stood and insisted he was 100% behind his staff. At one point the manager told my husband that it was our fault if his staff were rude. To say the customer service is terrible would imply that there was some customer service.

Normally go further afield for Sunday lunch but stayed local and went to O'Gradys.

2 Sunday lunches for £ 10 in the bar, manager was busy helping diner to seats and checking everything wa ok, excellent service, then meals arrived, tasty, good selection of meats and vegetables with sauces in nice clean dishes. Really tasty Sunday fayre, well done everyone, it isn't often this sort of old fashioned service and good quality food can be enjoyed these days. Thanks again x

Waitresses, manager and bar staff very friendly and professional. We will be back

Room Tip: Didn't stay in rooms but bet breakfast would be lovely x

Stayed here for the first time last weekend and will definately be returning. Great staff, reasonably priced, rooms clean and food fantastic. A complete weekend away package rolled into one building with owners who seem to have a passion for ensuring the customer is well looked after!!

Thanks for the hospitality

I often look at trip advisor at places I stay and i do not write reviews as I have always thought that there are a lot of negative people . . . . Having come back from a weeks holiday at sensatori Tenerife and flying to and from newcastle we decide to not cut our holiday short and stay at the end of Easter to break the distance back to the midlands my partner and I . . . The rooms are clean and tidy and if you run out of milk etc the reception are always happy to replenish. The beds are comfy the pillows are soft and I see no problem with sleep. . . I always feel like a local when we stay and the landlady and landlord are always socialising which gives an added touch pf caring about your customers. . . The food is of good quality and we always ask for a takeaway when going home on a Sunday as the last thing I want to do is cook on our return . . . Bands are brilliant and ok there is some sound but I wouldn't it any other way . . . I will be going back again and I hope to go during the summer with my family and use as a base

After our boss booked us into the O'gradys hotel again after we told him we dont want to stop there again, the first thought was OMG.... The bar its self and the staff are very good. The food looks good too but the rooms are what let this place down. They have live band on quite reguler on a weekend. if you are on the first floor you will have no chance of sleeping because of the noise and vibration of the music. the second floor ya might get 40 winks if you wear ear plugs. not good after a 12 hour shift and you are back up at 6 for work the next day. we stayed over the easter period and they had 4 bands in 4 night playing. we was dead on our feet and our boss would not let us move.
now for the rooms themselves. in 8 days they was cleaned only twice. the bed sheets was NEVER changed. my bed had pee stains on the sheets. the shower was poor and could not get a regular temp. the celing and shower grouting was full of black mould (big black mushrooms) I even took a bottle of bleach into the shower and tried to clean it myself. The last residents had been smoking in the room and it stunk. was greated one morning by a big pile of sick on the landing. not sure what the stains was on the curtains but it was white and crispy (let ya guess at that one).
overall the place is a dump. steptoes and sons house is cleaner.
