We are currently staying at this establishment. On arrival we received a warm welcome and given details as to the location of our 2 bedroom house. No problems there. The development looks like an old-fashioned terrace development, streets and streets of little houses but very close together. On walking through the door we were impressed by the nice neutral décor and good kitchen. However it soon became clear, to use an English expression, this place is all 'fur coat and no knickers'. Went to use the downstairs bathroom but there is no hand towel or provision to have one so wet hands. Went to open a bottle of wine in what is, in general, a quite well-equipped kitchen but nothing - surprising given that the hotel is situated smack bang in the middle of the Corbieres vineyard region full of little shops selling the local wines. Went to use the shower in the bathroom - tricky as both the Hot and Cold disks in the taps were missing so it was literally a baptism of fire or ice depending on whether you wanted to be scalded or frozen. The television only has French channels. BBC, CNBC, etc., are registered as they come up on the screen but there is no signal. The most annoying of all is that there is no hair dryer despite it being advertised in the hotel website as it being provided. We checked the site prior to leaving so didn't pack one, grrrgghhh.

OK, we rang reception to see if we could get a bottle opener and the response was that they didn't know if they had one (bear in mind this is a very large hotel complex with a restaurant and function facilities situated in one of the leading wine growing areas of France) and pointed out that this is supposed to be an equipped kitchen in the middle of vineyards, surely this is not unusual. Basically it was too bad, if we wanted it opened we had to trek 300 odd metres to the reception desk. When we asked for the advertised hair dryer we were told that they were all gone! Gone, there was supposed to be one in the room. They just did not give a toss.

Should you be looking for privacy, forget it, because the houses are so packed together, all your neighbours can look into the living area attractively decorated as it might be and there is zero privacy on your terrace.

Also, the pool looks very dirty - seems like there might be a problem with the filter. Good for pond life and not much more at the moment.

This place could be really nice with just a little more attention to detail, maintenance and some rather drastically needed customer service training for staff.

Room Tip: Take your own hair dryer and a bottle opener as you have buckley's chance of getting one here.

Nice location if you prefer to stay away from city traffic and noise.

This hotel is actually a building complex with dozens of small multi-unit houses. It feels more like a military camp than a hotel.

THE GOOD:
Our room had a complete kitchen, sofa-bed, TV, and half-bathroom on the ground floor. On the upper floor there was the bedroom with another TV set and a nice bathroom. Good lighting in the bathroom. No carpeting on the floor (this is a plus). Two large clothes closets. In-room safe. There are larger suites, some include a private swimming pool.

Located In the middle of a beautiful agricultural region.

The staff is very nice and helpful. The SPA offers a very wide variety of services.

Fast complimentary Wi-Fi was easy to connect to. Complimentary parking.

Nice breakfast in a very nice setting

THE NOT SO GOOD:
The view from our room was limited to seeing other buildings. This completely ruined the rural experience. It feels more like barracks. Not really worth the drive so far away from the main highway.

Long walk from car to rooms. Golf carts will help with the luggage.

The pool looks like it needs cleaning, and there a several other items that need minor maintenance. Our room had a strong annoying disinfectant smell.

Limited choice of TV channels if you don’t speak French. No hair dryer

Les Jardins is a top-of-the-range resort for people who are interested in getting a genuine taste of rural France, and it is the combination of these two that makes it so appealing. The accommodation is excellent, the buildings are tastefully designed to fit in with the countryside and there is an excellent pool and restaurant on site. It great for families as its safe and contained, and its also a great base for exploring the Carcassonne area and all its wonderful towns and attractions. Would highly recommend.

I have been to Les Jardins twice now - once when the resort had just opened and once again in the summer. This place just keeps getting better and better! It's a lovely resort with great activities for kids, including swimming, table tennis, boules and tennis. The spa is top class and it's great to have the option of an indoor pool - especially for those days you've overdone the sunbathing!

The bar is a great spot for a pre-dinner drink and the buffet breakfast is very impressive. You can also buy your bread and croissants from the restaurant every morning in case you're feeling too lazy to take a stroll down to the boulangerie! The houses are tastefully decorated in the typical relaxed southern French style with colourful shutters and wicker furnishings.

They also have wine tasting evenings every week in the summer which is a great way of sampling local wines. The staff at Les Jardins are very attentive, friendly and are always happy to book a restaurant/taxi/tour for you if you're French isn't up to scratch.

Finally, I think my favourite thing about this resort is that it is in such a lovely, unspoiled area of France. It's outside of Carcassonne, so it's not too touristy. The beaches around Narbonne are in driving distance as is a day trip to northern Spain. There are beautiful vineyards in the area, lovely rock pools and some really fantastic restaurants. I couldn't recommend this place more highly - I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: The houses down the far end of the resort with the swimming pools get all day sun!!
