We went to Thassos for the first time and we fell in love immediately to this beautiful island. Grand Beach hotel is very nice hotel in a very good location (10 minutes walking from Limenaria - where u can find restaurants, shops, tavernas....) The owners of the hotel are very nice people, smiling and willing to help everyone with the problems. The breakfast are still the same, but for one or two weeks you can still make many variations, so we didn´t have any problem with that. Dinners are served by the owners and the food was mostly very good!!! Our room was kept clean, we cant say anything bad about that. The beach is sandy with stones, clean (rent with the drink, with the service to the beach) and the water is crystal clear (closer to LImenaria town it starts to be messy). I would sum up our holiday as the best we have ever had and we are sure that we will come back!!!

The Grand Beach Hotel provides a great base to go and explore the beautiful island of Thassos. There aren't hoards of tourists on the island and you don't have to look far for an authentic Greek experience. The rooms are what you would expect for a property of its rating and are comfortable. It's a family run hotel and you really feel that warm Greek welcome. The family know how to take care of guests and are very friendly. The food seems to be all home cooked, which is just delicious. Meals were out on the terrace, overlooking the sea and were reasonably priced. We didn't bother using the kitchens - we bought most of our evening meals at the hotel, as well as breakfast. The long stretch of beach in front of the hotel is great for relaxing, reading, dipping in the sea, etc and there are plenty of beds and umbrellas. I think it's the longest beach on the island... anyway, it's very nicely kept. There's a beach bar that was open late into the evening. Great for cocktails! There's Wifi, a hotel computer, and don't forget to try the Greek coffee - that really wakes you up in the morning!! It's definitely a place to go and unwind and I would go there again for that purpose.

Thassos is a place to relax on the beach, read a book and forget abot it all for a while. No great excitments, night life or sightseeing, just peace and relaxation. For such a stay you would want to have relaxing hotel with no stress and everything working. The Grand Beach Hotel was promising that through pictures and describtions (also on this site).
Unfortunately if you happen to get a room with a back view you will:
- Have leaking taps over the shower that will not be repaired through your entire stay (and probably not after that). The wall and shower will be coverd with black mould and the floor will be wet all the time. No reaction to our complains from the management.
- The toilet flush will make noises similar to a B52 bomber airplane flying over, each time you use it. Forget about flushing at night.
- View on the backyard with storage area for the bar and restaurant and a garden sculpure in the form of an old car engine right below your balcony.
- extra charges for the safe box - 2 euro, AC - 5 euro and the use for he kitchenette - 6 euro per day if you use and of them
In adition to these room features there will be:
* water dropping from the ceiling of the reception room and the male toilet in the restaurant
* boring breafast (even by greek standards - have been there +15 times) with watery coffee and extremely watery orange juice, nu butter just margarine, absolutely no fruits or vegetables, not at least ketchup to spice up the meal.
* absolutely dreadfull suppers even by the lowest standards. During 7 days we ranked 2 meals as axceptable (musaka and meat balls) 4 were bad and at least 1as poisoning (spaghetti bolognese contained smelly old meat that the local cat would not eat).
* a well organised beach bar in front of the hotel on a nice sandy beach. Unfortunately playing very loud music all day long, so if you want to have some peace walk away at least 100 meters and forget sun beds or umbrellas.
* a garden arrangement with some sort of mad men's water cascade made of concrete and stones that nevery actually worked (thank Good) and a lawn that possibly was nice 30 years ago when the hotel was build.
These are only the negative sides. There are things to praise:
* Some of the staff is very friendly (big exception for the grimm breakfast waitress, who does not understand a word in any language, but greek)
* If you have a sea view room, then the view will be nice and apart from the piping concerto it should be peacefull.
* From the outside the building looks nice, rooms are big and beds are comfortable (though not soft - so not for the yankies ;-) )
* The hotel beach is among the nicest in Limenaria with good sandy access to the sea.
* No parking problems as the hotel is on the outskirts of the village (about 15minutes walking to centre.
If you can book sea side room, want to loose some weight by not eating at the hotel and making long walks to the centre to eat, take a risk. We would rather not go there again.

The situation of the Hotel is excellent, right on a quiet stretch of beach and within a comfortable walk into town. The rooms have a/c which is much appreciated in August. Please bear in mind that you have to pay extra for a/c, safety deposit box and kitchenette which came to an extra 80 euros. Before we went I had read some very good reviews and was a little dissapointed when we got there. The cleanliness of the rooms was not brilliant, the bathroom floor in fact was dirty. We also found the beds uncomfortable and rather than feel refreshed in the morning we all felt rather achey. Saying that we did enjoy our holiday and the food in the restaurant was good. We also liked the views from the balcony. We did like Thassos but found it extremely busy at this time of year, as the Greek children are also on holiday and trying to get a taxi on the island proved to be a nightmare.

  • Liked — Views and proximity to the beach
  • Disliked — Beds and cleanliness

We booked this hotel through lastminute.com for a 2 night stay in July after reading all the good reviews. Upon arrival we were greeted by the unwelcoming owner who immediately told us that we had been very close to not having a room (!). He added that in order to accommodate us he had to send 2 of his other guests to another hotel and thus had to pay 120 euros for them per night. His ramblings made no sense till he started complaining that he only gets very little money from our booking and he is unhappy with the companies that process the booking. When I noted that none of this has anything to do with us (we had prepaid for the hotel in full over a month ago) he ignored me.

Apart from the horrible 'welcome', the hotel room was spacious with a medium-sized bathroom and the balcony had a wonderful view of the sea. It was however, not very clean and the bathroom hygiene showed serious signs of neglect. Breakfast was included but a notice on a cupboard door declared that we had to pay an extra 2 euros if we wanted to eat egg, ham, cheese, cornflakes, milk or cake (cake wasn't available in any case). We decided to give breakfast a miss after tasting it on the first day (watery tea and coffee, bad quality orange juice, cheese and ham that was going off in the heat of the day out of fridge and dirty tables in the breakfast area that attracted wasps and flies).

Overall, we felt extremely unwelcome over our 2 day stay. We hadn't been informed of breakfast times, check out procedure etc. and on leaving, we abandoned our key on a shut reception desk at 10 o'clock in the morning.

I have traveled all over Greece, have visited Thassos (which is a magnificent island) over 10 summers and I can say that this was the single most unpleasant experience I've had, in a hotel claiming to be a 3 star hotel. We would have expected a polite if not a warm welcome, a decent breakfast and a clean bathroom. Is that too much to ask for?

  • Liked — The views of the sea.
  • Disliked — The rude welcome and the dirty bathroom.

we have just returned from this hotel, it is in a wonderful location
right next to the beach, the staff and owners were very friendly, nothing to much trouble, we had a lovely room 205 huge balcony
fantastic views, the beach bar was wonderful you would lay on the sunbed on the beach and veronica would come to see if you would like a drink the sunbeds are free if you buy a drink which is well worth it in that heat, the meals at the hotel are wonderful we ate at lunch at the beachside bar and once at the restaurant both excellent, once again thankyou for an excellent stay
