Bedroom downstairs stinks of damp, black spores on the wall and bubbling plaster at the bed head and paint peeling off the wall. No refund we stayed 10 minutes! Have put pictures up for you.

“Great Position but a few niggles”

Had to chase up guest manual/driving directions 3 times just before our arrival. Driving directions are only address and as our satnav blew on day of arrival wasn't much help. The manual gives info on cooker use etc but really should include what is recycled and when bins are collected, a calendar could be printed off council website which we had to refer to. The rubbish bin was overflowing on our arrival - not a nice welcome and something caretaker should do if guests haven't. We were given the details of a caretaker named Sue and her tel.no for any emergencies, however when arriving at cottage a note was there about a wasp's nest at back gate - left by a lady introducing herself as Jan the caretaker but no tel.no. We arrived back one day to a freezing cottage as there had been a power cut and we would have had no emergency contact available only husband managed to sort it. Negatives are, downstairs bedroom is only 5 foot wide with a 4 foot bed up against the wall with 1 bedside - so no room around bed for both persons. There is a smell of damp already mentioned by a guest - the water enters property in the bedroom wall with an aquavac water treatment machine which could explain the smell. Two ceiling lights, one didn't work neither did bedside lamp. Tiffany style lamps in lounge look nice but give no light so impossible to read - no ceiling light either. Damp smell in bathroom as extractor fan doesn't work, vinyl flooring needs a deep clean. Very nice upstairs bedroom with comfortable bed and nice linen. However gas boiler is in there and keeps you awake coming on and off. Only 1 socket in bedroom with an extension lead with only one plug for 1 bedside light - the other person can't read!! Kitchen is adequate but only a little worktop space, only 3 small saucepans, 2 small frying pans, no baking/roasting/pizza trays or oven proof dishes. I feel with an upstairs bedroom and a woodburning stove downstairs there should be a fire escape route and a fire extinguisher provided, and worryingly the two battery operated smoke alarms downstairs were lying on a shelf with no working batteries Most of these negatives are very easily rectified with a little attention by the owner and caretaker, as it is a lovely little cottage with attractive frontage and pretty little back courtyard with access to Queens Park and the boating/duck lake. Out the front gate takes you in 5 minutes to the beach and promenade and 10 minutes into the town. Would recommend to others if the negatives were corrected.

“A really lovely Cottage holiday”

We had a lovely holiday at the Fishermans Cottage although it did puzzle us a little as on the wall outside it is called Hill top cottage, still we will know for next time because we will be going back, lovely location, right next to the boating lake, where the little ducks do actually come and ask for food. Just perfect. We parked the car on the single yellows just up the road as the cottage itself has no parking facilities, but not a problem to us.

We had everything we needed to make this a perfect holiday, real home from home, We took our mini daxie, and he really loved the beach, where towards Trustville, you are allowed to take them. we were out for hours, Mablethorpe is very doggie friendly anyway.

All you need is your case with few clothes, and that's it.

“beautiful cottage”
Reviewed 27 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Stayed for the half term week in May.
Very good location, close to beach and shops, a few good cafes around, but not many restaurants. A good central place for seeing the amazing coastline and inland scenery, and loads to do locally.
The cottage is very well equipped, beds were comfy, stairs a bit steep, but as there is a downstairs double, would suit all ages.
Quite surprised at how spacious it was, with loads of storage if you are wanting a long stay, the photos do not do the size justice.
Well decorated and very cosy throughout. Log fire was welcome for the warmth and feeling of living the dream.
The patio garden was very pleasant and backed onto the boating lake, ducks were always wandering about by the back gate. There is a street light outside the garden, which didn't shine in the bedrooms, but kept the garden lit throughout the evening, was so pretty.
The downside was the stale smell of dogs. I know the owners welcome 1 small dog, but even the upstairs bedroom reeked of stale dog. This is a housekeeping issue as well as guests not heeding the owners request to keep dogs downstairs, but the carpets need a clean to get rid of the smell, and the furniture needs washing down, when I entered the cottage the smell was so bad I was gagging. There were also dog hairs in the bathroom, and cigarette butts in the patio garden, so the housekeeping issues need addressing to warrant 5 stars.

Hi Lynn, Thankyou for your valued feedback and i'm pleased you enjoyed your stay and can confirm that the Dog issues have now been resolved since your stay in May with new carpets and a thorough clean through, hence the review of a guest that stayed a few weeks later. Your feedback has been very important to us and i have taken the decision to no longer accept pets at this cottage and therefore ends these issues. I look forward to your retuen as a valued guest in the future.

“Fisherman Cottage/Hillside Cottage”

Lovely Cottage, clean and tidy. Close to the beach, kids playground and at the most 10-15 minute walk into town. With a chip shop at the end of the street and a little café on the prom there's really nothing more you could want. Except parking, the only drawback is there is no off street parking. However there is a carpark about 50 yards down from the cottage and some people parked on the roadside but not sure if that was legal. You can however park in a carpark behind the bus station which is near the co-op for £9 a week. Like I said that was the only drawback as when we arrived there was milk, coffee and tea already there. Towels, dishcloths and bedding are supplied and your pet pooch is allowed as well. There was even dog bowls supplied. For those wet miserable evenings there's a log burner, playing cards, DVDs, Domino's and books to read. All in all something for most people. Close to bus route if you fancy a trip into Skegness. Would suit most people as the bathroom, one bedroom, kitchen and living room are on one floor. Would love to return sometime.

“Lovely cottage, next to the beach - Perfect”

This was our first ever holiday in Lincolnshire and what a beautiful place to come to. We have always previously gone back to the same place year on year as we knew what to expect but this year we decided to have a change and we're not disappointed.

The Fisherman's cottage is a lovely property which is located just a stones throw from the beach and our 8 year old loved seeing the ducks up close which was amazing to her which are at the back of the property overlooking the lake.

The cottage itself was clean and comfortable and ideal for our family of 3 adults and 1 child. The upstairs bedroom has the comfiest bed in the world. During our stay we enjoyed sitting at the back watching the ducks , birds and the world go by with a glass of wine or Two!

Our daughter really enjoyed the beach which was great being so close to the cottage. Mablethorpe is a lovely little town with lots to see and do and has some fantastic places to eat which we enjoyed several times. We will definately come back and highly recommend.
