“Good Salad & Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

We ate at Bamboo Cafe our first night and really enjoyed our meal. I got the Banana Flower salad and it was delicious. The lady serving us was so friendly and attentive. There are not a lot of good options on Cat Ba so we were happy to find this place.

“Good choice”

Nothing more than unusual, but it's a safe bet, which I can't say on every restaurant in the island. The decor adds a bit as well. Been there twice, both ended up happily full for a reasonable price (without sitting on a plastic kid chair)

“Well below expectation”

Lonely Planey Guidebook had recommended this cafe as a Top Pick. Perhaps in 2011 it was, bot no longer. The food i and my wife ate were not good. Blah was the best way to put it. The tuna was hard and inedible. The subsequent item was marginally better. My food was similarly of low quality.

At least the tiger beer was good (from a bottle) and my wifes water was good (also from a bottle)

Staff was on par with the Cat Ba area at most places.

Bottom line is it did not make us sick. Something to be thankful for when one will spend the next day kayaking in the beautiful area.

I would not recommend this place at all... Take a few more steps and head to the market or My Way restaurant.

“Basic Menu for a quick meal”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014

The Bamboo Cafe offers a basic menu of Vietnamese and western food (see the menu I photographed). I liked the breakfast for the most part, but you can enjoy a good lunch here too. Do not recommend it as a local seafood restaurant; for more island fare and a good experience with local Vietnamese (and other tourists) you need to go somewhere else.

“pretty average”

It's ok, the staff were nice enough. Decent enough menu but the food itself wasn't particularly exciting. I feel the western food here is probably better than the local cuisine
