“Thank You Mr. Hin!! Excellent Staff and Quiet.”
Reviewed 12 March 2012

When I checked in I was at first a little disappointed that the hotel was a distance from the waterfront. However I had excellent ocean views from the 7th floor and was upgraded at no additional charge...Thank You Mr. Hin!! The room was delightful and the staff was top notch. It was good to be back in Vietnam after traveling throughout SE Asia looking for a good locale to open up shop. The staff was always helpful and looking out for me and made me feel quit welcome. I will be coming back once I check out the north. Thank you again for making my trip to Cat Ba memorable. Mr. Tom

Room Tip: Go to 6th or 7th floor for the Good View otherwise no ocean view.

After looking at photos of Cat Ba, we choose to book a sea view room (and were prepared to pay a premium) in Fantasea. We arrived by bus and started walking towards where the booking site map showed the hotel to be... there were plenty of hotel operators wanting our business, but we said no, we've got a booking here - however do you know where it is? Pointed towards a back street, up the hill, next to a contruction site. Wasn't happy that it was so far away from the bay but still had hopes for the promised sea view - only to be dispointed that there wasn't even a view from our fourth floor. Spoke to reception, who said 'there's a sea view from the seventh (and top) floor'. Stayed one night of the booked two and moved to a far cheaper hotel on the sea front with a fantastic sea view

Room Tip: Lots of accommodation options on the sea front, choose those over Fantasea (if you do stay, don'...

Had a nice standard room, simply but clean. Hotel is a 5 minutes walk away from the harbour / city center.

Best thing about the hotel: friendly & helpful hotel staff. They provided a lot of suggestions for things to do (biking, kayaking, ...) and went above and beyond in helping me to organize it. They also helped all of those, who had problems with boat trips through Halong Bay to deal with travel agencies.

We booked for 1 night, but after seeing the room we immediately decided to stay there for our entire 4 nights in Cat Ba. The hotel is located about 100 meters up a side street from the main road, right across from the pier. this distance helped make it a quiet refuge.

Our room was on the sixth floor (603). I would recommend getting one on either the 6th or 7th. Anything lower blocks your view to the side. Because we were so high up, we could use the balcony for drying clothes.

Our room had flat screen TV, which we didn't use and the WiFi router for the 6th floor, which I liked. The bathroom area around the shower door could have been kept a little cleaner, grime in the hard places to reach. The refrigerator came loaded with beers and other drinks, and the items were competitive in price with ordering from a restaurant on the strip.

The lobby had three computer stations connected to the internet. A free breakfast came with the room ($22.70 USD per night). Its choice was limited. The dinner menu was extensive, well prepared and inexpensive ($2.50 to $5.00).

The manager, Mr. Hin, was very helpful and his English was quite adequate.

We would recommend Fantasea and go back.

Room Tip: 6th or 7th floor. Room 603 was perfect.

19/10/11, travelling as a couple. AKA Fantasea & Queen Hotel. Not on the esplanade, next to a construction site and warm water - I wondered whether I had made the right choice. As it turned out, I probably did – the room was new, really quiet and the building work was inaudible (friends at the Hung Long Harbour Hotel complained of the sound system that ran from 6pm-11pm). The breakfast was small but fine and the woman on reception was very friendly. Summary: Quieter than it looks.

Nice hotel, very new and clean with balcony and great bathroom. Free internet downstairs on computers, but more often than not it was the staff utilizing it.

Came on a tour and have to say the food in the hotel isn't very good. Stayed an extra night and you could probably get something much cheaper on the esplanade if it's low season (although the rooms probably wouldn't be as nice). The staff don't speak very good english - particularly when compared to the hotel I stayed in Hanoi.

The room was allright, roomy and clean. Breakfast was pretty bad, no choice and the bread was old and dry. We wanted to stay here for three nights. The man in the front office tried to let us pay immediately for all three nights, very unusual. When we were looking around in town and asking about trips we found out there was a typhone coming in and everything would close down for a few days. We immediately bought a bus ticket back to Hanoi and checked out of the hotel. Now I know why he wanted us to pay in advance. An honest innkeeper would have warned us about the weather instead of sneaking money out of our pockets.
A tripple room was $42.
