“Great experience”
Reviewed 10 March 2014

George is a very experienced B&B host as well as a native of Marahau. He was very friendly and helpful in making sure we were able to have the best experience in Able Tasman. We stayed in the house which was modestly furnished, in a great location, where you have an ocean view surrounded by a country location.

I would have never known about this place had I not read others' comments on Trip Advisor. What a wonderful place to stay! We only stayed there one night, during our whirlwind 3 week hiking trip in New Zealand, but if I had known more about Abel Tasman National Park and George's comfortable accommodations, I would have planned to stay longer. The four of us stayed in the two motel units which are quite spacious and have a nice porch for relaxing. The washing machine was a pleasant surprise 2 weeks into our trip. Went to George's house for breakfast, and he packed us a delicious lunch for the trail. We also went to the nearby Park Cafe for drinks, dinner and snacks. We hiked the Coastal Track to Anchorage and back. The views were amazing, and the beaches were lovely and deserted even though the weather was perfect - sunny and mid 70's F. I'm telling all my friends about Abel Tasman Stables!

One of the highlights of our trip, we initially booked one night through the i-site but eventually stayed 4 night since our son and his wife were living nearby. The rooms are certainly not stables!

We had a huge unit with wheelchair access via the deck, in addition to the usual amenities it included a free washing machine and large covered drying area, a jug of milk was provided.

You can't actually see the sea from the motel units but they overlook a huge expanse of lawn and are only a couple of hundred yards from the park entrance.

WiFi internet is free but not actually usable from the motel units due to very low signal strength, I needed to go up to the main house to get a good signal. I suggested to George, the owner, that he should invest in a WiFi repeater since it was the only real downside to our experience. The TV was also a bit small for a unit that size but we didn't want to watch much TV so not a big problem.

Beautiful place with a perfect location in walking distance of the entrance to tasman park. Nice room, tremendous view. Very knowledgeable host who had excellent advice on the trips we could take in the park. Enjoyed his lovely garden where we could relax and read a book.

My husband has earned many brownie points as he managed to find this little gem and surprise me with a night away. George was very friendly and the setting is absolute paradise. Very spacious motel, extremely clean and good facilities. Continental breakfast in the morning was in the company of very polite 'woofers'. The tuis outside our unit provided the music for the morning. Very relaxed atmosphere - like staying with a favourite uncle. Thanks George.

Were so lucky to stumble upon The Stables. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. Well appointed, spacious cabin in beautiful, peaceful surroundings and just a ten minute walk from a great little pizzeria. Thoroughly enjoyed breakfast in George's kitchen and he could not have been more helpful.

We decided, on short notice, to stay an extra night in Marahau and luckily George had room for us. We stayed in the cottage and it was beautiful. The grounds are stunning and the location is ideal - close to everything! This is a beautiful part of New Zealand and if we come back, I would stay here again.

Room Tip: This is close to the Abel Tasman Track trail head.
