“Easy climb, lovely view”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

Visited near sunset with family including kids, 2yo and 5yo. Successfully navigated the kids to the top of the rock for breathtaking views of the sunset. Took the pram part way in and went back and picked it up later.

Pretty crowded at that time of day on a weekend in peak tourist season, but didn't feel crowded and was beautiful.

Bonus 4G mobile reception occasionally when up the top, ideal for posting your panoramic photo!

“Fascinating”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

We went with two local Aboriginal rangers, who took the group along the walks, up the hills and cliffs and showed us and explained the amazing rock art. It was very informative and the rangers highlighted the pictures with their Dreamtime stories like the Echidna and the Long Neck Turtle, and the Crocodile Sisters, which my kids have been telling everyone ever since.

“Superb”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Sunset was the highlight. The landscape is hauntingly beautiful.
The rock art is fascinating, and the environment gives you some sense of how the dreamtime mythology was inspired.
Easy to avoid the crowds.

“Cultural and spiritual place”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

Ubirr Escarpment , above East Alligator River was the most picturesque place in Kakadu. This comment is filtered through the lens of travelling 2 ton truck which did not allow us access to some sites.
The rock paintings on the lower part of the Ubirr walk were interesting and there is an option to do a free tour with local Traditional Owner to tell the stories of each painting.
The climb to the top of the escarpment is well worth the effort, as the view from the top provides stunning views of the wetlands and the river below.

The Merl campground is only a few kilometers away and is linked to Ubirr by walking path. Camping cosfs $10 per person per night.

The Border Store is also close by for supplies
