“Wonderful start to finish”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

We stayed for 12 days at Sol Cayo Largo at the end of April and we will return without a second thought. We had a few small glitches which were attended to immediately. The beach is perfect, the food is great, the facilities are very well-kept, and the staff treated us like gold. Anabel, Miguel Angel, Eduardo, and everyone else are really top-notch service-people and lovely human beings.

No crowds, peaceful, perfect beach, ten minutes from the airport. Some might knock the location as being over the dunes from the beach, but that's by design; these are protected wildlife dunes. Turtles!

Room Tip: All locations seem fine. Suites at either end of the complex might be more shaded.

Beautiful beach, we had a nice room, the bathroom was not so up to date, the room was located near the beach, only 2 min to walk, food was good, but all these mosquitos got really on our nerves! Food in the a la carte restaurant was awesome! I recommend to bring your own cup, because you dont wanna walk to the bar every 2 minutes!

We just returned from a great vacation at the SCL from July 21-31. Our 4th time in Cayo Largo, but first time at CSL. Being a smaller island, the transfer from the airport takes no longer than 10 minutes to the SCL - great to start your vacation right away!

The staff was amazing, extremely nice and very helpful - many of them speak English and some French so you can easily communicate with them. It is helpful, though, to have some very basic Spanish - it makes a difference when you wish to get to know the staff and make an effort.

The Ranchon (beach restaurant) is large and accommodates many people for lunch - opens at 12:30. A BBQ hut is just next to the ranchon and the cook bbq's chicken, pork and chorizo. It has also a section with salads, warm dishes including fish and of course bite size desserts.

The buffet food at night was quite varied and excellent. If you wish to reserve for an "A La Carte" evening restaurant, opt for the Las Trinas before the Ranchon - the food and service was amazing. Reservations are made from 4 to 6pm every evening near the reception.

The beach is stunning. The red flag was out for the first few days and the waves were somewhat powerful with a rip current. Parents should pay close attention to children when playing close to the shore. The ocean did calm down and we were able to enjoy the warm Caribbean waters.

Playa Paraiso and Playa Sirena are very close to the SCL. Playa Paraiso is rated #5 in the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean’s (according to TripAdvisor). Each one has its own distinct character and they are both worth a look. Playa Sirena offers crystal clear water to view starfish up close.

We rented a "jeep" for a couple days from the rental office at the hotel. Cost was 52 CUC per day. It was easier to get to the beaches before the crowd and also to the Marina. It offers a couple shops, small artisan displays, a turtle farm and a small but beautiful bar/restaurant - great thin crust pizza & Crystal beer!

Note that there's only a couple taxis operating on the island - it might not be a great option as the waiting time is a little long.

The resort is adequate to 4 stars, however I would give 5 star for the excellent quality and variety of food.
June - September is a very interesting season to visit Cayo Largo, this time giant sea turtles come every night to the beach to nest their eggs.
I gave 3 stars for the location due to resort is located in a lower area of the coast line and is blocked by dunes from the sea breeze, which you can enjoy while on the beach, but it is too hot inside the resort. Not big inconvenience though.

Dear clients,
Thanks for your impressions about recently stay in Sol Cayo Largo. About the food quality your opinion is really appreciate. Concerning to the construction of the hotel, it was designed to protect nature and the environment without damaging the dunes, really the ground floor rooms closer to the beach are the hottest.
Wishing to welcome you once more.

My first trip to Cuba and it won't be my last! Everything exceeded my expectations. The resort was beautiful, beach was breath taking, even though the large waves knocked me out more than once! LOL I was extremely surprised by how good the food was, being that many people have said not to expect high quality, tasty food. The buffet had much to choose from, pasta bar, fish grill, meat grill, crepes bar, etc... the entertainment was funny, and the dancers were great! By far the greatest part was the people! So friendly, gracious and go out of their way for you. Be sure to tip them, they deserve it! I recomend this resort to everyone, and will definetly be back in the near future:)

The hotel was a great place to relax. The people were very nice. The rooms were comfortable and the food was good at this hotel (one of the best that I have had in Cuba). There is a pool restaurant that makes good pizza and the beach buffet features a delicious outdoor grill during lunch. Some of the best grilled chicken that I have had. anywhere.
We were there for the re-opening of the main pool with the swim up bar. The other pool is now closed for repairs. This means that the pool is quite busy, however only after lunch time when people come back from the "off resort" beaches.
The only negative about this hotel is that the beach is very rough and usually there was a red or yellow flag up for swimming. As a result, the hotels in the area provide transportation to and from other beaches on the island. The issue with this is that obviously you have time restrictions for the bus/ferry and you do not have access to free food/drinks as you will be off the resort grounds. You also have to wait in line during boarding times. Although, the transportation service is free and it was fun to take a boat and see the island. The beaches were also very beautiful

This was a resort that needed to have some money spent on the grounds. The staff was the best part, they were always friendly and smiling (especially friendly was my new friend Anibal, who works in entertainment). The beach is one of the most beautiful i've walked on, very quiet atmosphere, just the waves of the ocean (beautiful). If you are looking for night life this is not somewhere you should be going. If its to relax and eat good food then this is the place for you. One last thing they a section for nude sunbathing!

Anibal, I will be sending you a small box of things you might need, Thanks for being who you are, Hope you are well, Laurie
