“Nice resort and friendly staff”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

I will recommend this resort to anyone wanting an unspoilt town with a beach. Whatever you need is within reach, including towns for essential shopping, lunch and nightlife.

The resort is very comprehensive and the facilities (including the spa) are good enough. The fridge is well stock. You can ask for an iron and a kettle, but best to take your own. Watersport /scuba diving are available at Pefkari, about 15 minutes walk to the left of the resort.

At least 80% of the rooms in are in blocks and it will take a few days to get your bearings right. The rest are villas with private swimming pools. Children and senior citizens will enjoy the hotel evening entertainment.

The resort grows vegetables and the food is well cooked. Apart from the Feta Cheese in salads, no Greek cuisines were served. So I am disappointed about that.

For essentials and night out, Potos is the closet town - about 10 minutes walk to the right of the resort. You can buy all your essentials, each lunch and have nice bar dance if you like. There is a supermarket just a few yards away from the kebab store. You are better-off buying all your Greek snacks in that supermarket.

The best town to visit in Thassos is Panagia. An excursion trip around the town will give you a good feel of Panagia (only one of many coach stops) but you need to spend a whole day there another day Panagia. Limenars is the municipal town of South Thassos. You can do you banking and post your postcards.

Public transport around the town is available for under five Euro one-way and you really need to study the timetable carefully. The reception staff are very informative - they will help you out with that.

Enjoy your stay

This was our fourth time on the island of Thassos and our second visit to the Alexandra.

After the excellent flight and transfer by coach (mainland twenty minutes) ferry (thirty to forty minutes) and Thassos transfer (forty minutes) we arrived at the Alaxandra resort.

We traveled as a three generation family and a party of eight.

Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed and cases were transported to our rooms.

We have all stayed in sea facing rooms which have nice balcony's overlooking the sea. Ground floor rooms would not benefit from sea views.

The grounds are very well looked after and gardeners are constantly pruning, mowing and watering.

There has been some serious development on the beach in the last year which has massively improved the standard.

The beach bar now has a terrace and there are extended areas for sunbathing and toilets are brand new in a bunker like building. Very impressive.

Beach areas are not sand however this is not a problem as a good pair of sandles or beach shoes will sort this. The sea is typically postcard Greek and very nice. Three pontoons spread across the two hundred meter ish private beach which is a fantastic photo opportunity.

The sea is tranquil enough for a two year old to paddle with the adults to the end of the pontoon (approximate fifty meters) out.

The hotel itself is big enough to be claimed as personal but have all of the available facilities a larger resort would expect.

The two pools are well located were the smaller children s pool is quieter and more personal.

Food is predictable but good and service is well established and organised.

Potos is a five minute walk away with plenty of bars and restaurants well worth their waiting gold.

We will defiantly return for a third visit as this is a well ran hotel with excellent facilities.

Another great stay at Alexandra thank you all.

Thumbs up again from last review ***** can we have a six next time :-)

Room Tip: sea view, however all rooms seem to be ok. maybe avoid carpark view.

Spent two weeks here in the middle of September. We set out for a chilled holiday and this hotel provided that. The setting of the hotel is faultless with the hotels two pools overlooking the ocean. The staff were friendly and courteous and there were several bars throughout the complex. The beach, which was sand/stoney (not soft underfoot) was just a short walk away. Both the poolside and beach had free parasols for the guest. Some guest moaned about the food but, both breakfast and dinner were of a buffet style so piping hot food was not possible with such mass catering as the food would simply dry out. There was plenty of variety in the food and if you have lunch as well a nice selection which is freshly cooked for you. The price of drinks was not that cheap but bars provided happy hours at different times to allow you to get a discount. If you wanted a change of scenery you could into Potos as it is just a short 10 minute walk out of the hotel and here there are plenty of eateries, bars and shops. The only issues I had was the 'a la carte' menu which we traded in an evening meal for in order to get a discounted meal. The food was of a similar standard to the main restaurant and did not provide a fine dining experience I was expecting so it felt like a waste of money. There are also gym facilities on site but much of the equipment was of a poor standard and not working. Overall though if you want a relaxing retreat you will not go far wrong with this resort.

We have just returned from a weeks' holiday at the Hotel Alexandra Beach in Thassos. Maybe we have enjoyed too many really good hotels, but we felt this was not up to the usual standard we have come to expect from Thomson, particularly as this was classed as a "Platinum Hotel". Our room was in a block towards the back of the hotel as we had not opted for a sea view. I realize that it was probably a very standard room but quite honestly the entrance to the block resembled a rather tired looking secondary school and it was very poorly lit. The bed was very hard so we were grateful for the extra topper the hotel provided for us when we complained. We had opted to pay for full board as we had enjoyed such good food from the other Thomson hotels we had previously used. However, on this holiday we were offered a set lunch which did not give much choice at all. If I had known this would have been the case I most certainly would not have paid extra for full board. The food at dinner time was also nowhere near the usual standard we have come to expect from this class of hotel. We thought the public areas around the hotel were attractive and well kept. Both swimming pools and the beach area were always very clean. We enjoyed visiting lots of places on Thassos and used the local buses. We found the information given to us from the staff in reception useful. The weather was absolutely glorious which helped us tolerate our disappointment with the hotel. However I am sorry to say for the very first time with Thomson, that we certainly will not be returning to the Alexandra and would not recommend it to any of our friends.

Room Tip: Standard rooms appear to be very tired.

Although I have rated the hotel excellent it is probably some where between good and excellent. The hotel is very clean and the staff are friendly and efficient but they were not stretched with it being the end of the season and so not full. The location could not be better sitting above a long beach which offers good safe bathing in wonderfully clean water and is virtually totally occupied by hotel guests .The gardens are extensive and well looked after , there are two nice sized pools , one for children and the other for adults . There is also a childrens play area but I did not see any children day time activities but families , couples or single visitors will generally be very happy here. Access to the beach is very good and the views across the water and down the coast are beautiful especially the sunsets . Food was varied with a good choice in the evening , so I cannot comprehend what some previous reviewers have to complain about .If I had an issue it would be very minor in that the toaster at breakfast was inadequate , an additional one is required but that is the extent of my complaints.Although it was coming to the end of the season all the bars and facilities were available to guests. In the close vicinity of the hotel is Potos a small town which can be reached in 5 mins on foot , here you will find numerous tavernas which are friendly and well managed offering a pleasant evening out.Thassos is a green island full of olives , walnuts , pine trees and vines surrounded by clean safe beaches which are easily reached . It is relatively small and driving is easy , even to get to some of the small delightful villages inland .The people are friendly and it has the feel of how Greek islands used to be . Due to austerity measures it appears a number of the archaeological are either closed or in need of attention .I would highly recommend this hotel and the island.

Room Tip: Partial sea view in blocks 200 etc

My first thing I would like to say from reading previous negative reviews if you go to another country with differnet cultures and traditions then expect things to be different. If you can't except this then you might as well stay in your home country. There is no pleasing some people. Give the hotel some credit they are dealing with all different nationalities and thousands of visitors each year and trying their best to accommodate everyone.

I would like to say that we had an amazing holiday last week in September with sunshine everyday. The journey was long but worth every minute travelling by plane, coach and ferry. Even saw a dolphin at the ferry port in kavalla so keep a look out. We were allocated a limited sea view room as requested and it was clean and very contemporary with lots of space and a nice balcony. Room was cleaned every day. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was an elderly couple who liked to spend time on the beach and were less able but the hotel arranged for them to be transported from the hotel to the beach in a little caddy I thought that was a lovely touch. The beach is a two minute walk and the pontoons are great for taking a dip.

The sunsets were amazing whilst having our evening meal.

Hired a jeep for a few days and went up into the mountains to kastro on a dirt track which they are currently building a new road don't be phased by the dirt track keep driving and the views are lovely.

Went by previous reviews and visited the boomerang bar it was good fun and nice to meet Alex and his son, so so welcoming and would remember us every time we visited.

I would highly recommend this hotel thank you for a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: Request limited sea views.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Alexandra Beach. Simply put it is wonderful. The hotel is perfect in every way; spotlessly clean and comfortable rooms and public areas; food was varied well cooked and fresh; staff polite and courteous. We had no complaints whatsoever and we are quite particular about cleanliness, food and staff attitude. I cannot understand the negative reviews, we ceratinly did not have any experiences described. When we arrived we had been given mattress toppers which were 'Tempur' style and extremely comfortable.
Special Thanks to Barbara & Leo in the restaurant and Tim from reception for excellent service.
I would recommend this hotel as it cannot be faulted and is excellent value for money.
The only negative we had was an evening trip to the taverna - sadly it did not match the service or food quality of the hotel.
