We stayed at The Manor Farmhouse on a visited to the Critch Tramway Museum. On arriving at the Farmhouse - I thought 'wow'! and on entering I was not disappointned. It was quirkey but very classy and not a speck of dust anywhere. The room was big, white and beautiful furniture, with a lovely spotless en-suite to match. The owners were away, but we were served by Freddie and Tim, who were the perfect hosts and served up the most healthy and delightful breakfasts. The history of the Farmhouse was a bonus and I just had to have a photo of where 'der plot was planned to 'do in' Elizabeth 1st!' I certainly will be back in the future and yes Freddie and Tim when in France will come and see you x

Thank you so much for your review of the Manor Farmhouse. We are really pleased - although we had every confidence - that you were very well looked after by Tim and Freddie who were holding the fort for us. I'm sorry we did not get to meet you, but hope you will
return to us one day.

The Manor Farmhouse Dethick was the birthplace of Sir Anthony Babington in the 15th century. Dethick is a tiny hamlet of three farms and a church. The oldest part of the house is the kitchen where we were treated to a delicious breakfast. The house is fascinating and Simon and Gilly are excellent hosts with lots of local knowledge and very good on clear directions. There are plenty of places to explore to suit all ages and tastes , and several pubs and restaurants for meals in the area. We would definitely return!

Manor Farm is a historically significant house in the smallest hamlet in the quiet Derbyshire countryside. Anthony Babington of Babington Plot fame lived here. One cannot help but imagine the goings-on in this house all those centuries ago. Within easy access to Bakewell and Matlock, the tiny hamlet of Dethick is close to the edge of the Peak District and affords hundreds of walks / cycle rides.

The B&B experience was very special indeed. Gilly is a most welcoming host; nothing is too much trouble. She provides you with printouts of walks you might want to embark on and is a font of information in the local area and its history. The room and en suite bathroom were spotlessly clean and very tastefully furnished. The double bed was huge, sumptuously comfortable and the room even had plenty of space for an extra bed for our teenage daughter.

And the breakfasts are to die for! They are specially ordered from the night before and Gilly prepares them herself in the enormous kitchen / breakfast room with immensely thick stone walls, dating back to 500 years ago or more.

We were in awe of the place and would love to go back at any time of the year. A fantastic place to explore from, to relax in the gardens, snuggle up indoors on snowy days, then to go back home all refreshed and recharged. Thank you so much, Gilly.

Stayed with my wife just over a week ago - very pleasant stopover and would certainly considering returning on next foray north.

As a bonus we were able to pop into Kedleston before arriving (30 mins to the south) and then to Hardwick Hall the following date before going to Richmond.

Breakfast excellent in all respects - my wife particularly enjoyed the vegetarian platter option - and we had a very good supper at the Plough at Brackenfield.

Do not leave without visiting the church nearby

Room Tip: had the upstairs room with view of garden - they all look good

What a lovely place the farm is very old & grade 2* listed, Gilly & Simon who own the farm are lovely, we have the garden room as it has a wet room for the shower & I didn't have to go upstairs where the other rooms were, Gilly had very thoughtfully put us in there as I was due to have spinal surgery the following week. The room opens straight out on to the garden & as the weather was so lovely it was ideal. Breakfast was served in the old farmhouse kitchen, cooked to order personally by Gilly using all locally sourced bacon, sausages etc., she would ask you where you were thinking of going for the day then go & print out routes & information for you, this place is thoroughly recommended, & we can't wait to go back.

I'm really sorry it has taken so long for us to respond to the wonderful review you wrote back in October. It was very thoughtful of you to take the time and trouble to give us such a good write up and it's very much appreciated by us all. We always try and respond to reviews very quickly and I have to confess to having slipped behind for various reasons. We always try and go "the extra mile" for our guests and providing information on where to go saves our guests time and enables them to get more out of their day. We were glad the Garden room met all your requirements and we hope your spinal surgery was a success. We hope you'll return to us in the not too distant future. And again, very many thanks for your review.
