We have visited Hartington many times and always CHOOSE to eat at The Devonshire . . . . and have the occasional drink, too.
It's your typical 'olde worlde' inn with a lovely garden at the rear and outdoor seating at the front.
The landlord is polite, welcoming and makes you feel like a valued customer even when it's busy.
The staff are attentive and helpful and the atmosphere is friendly and warm with locals as well as visitors.
The food is freshly-prepared and excellent and, over the years, has been consistently good.
There's good beer on tap and the landlord knows his beers and offers a good selection of wines.
We often stay at a lovely B&B for two nights here in Hartington and will always choose to eat at The Devonshire even though we have sampled the food elsewhere.
I would recommend booking a table to avoid disappointment as word travels fast!
