We booked through Groupon it was part of a christmas gift from our Daughter and her partner we were so looking forward to a break after a busy time but it turned into a disaster,we were told we could arrive anytime after 3pm but when we got there we rang the bell 3 time in 15 mins only to be greeted by an elderly gent who couldent find us on the diary and then told us the rooms weren't ready yet anyway,we then had to wait for the receptionist to come and find our booking she took us to our room which consisted of a double bed small d/table no chairs just enough room to shuffle sidways between the wall to get in bed, single glazed windows and see through curtains not anywhere to sit other than the bed ,the walls were paper thin and win got very loud neighbours,we went down for evening meal only to be left waiting for ages they had ran out of Beef on the menue and so we had little choice ihad pork and my wife had blade of beef that turned out to be just 60%fat when we complained to the only member of staff he offered us a free sweet which was in the offer anyway, on checking out the next day after getting no sleep the owner happened to be there at reception and asked had we enjoyed our stay so I told her what had happened and all she coul say was she hadent had any other complaints just what you want to hear stll one thing is certain we wouldent go back for free, sad because we have spent many good times in derbyshire .don

My wife and I stayed here last week and found it to be an absolutely delightful little hotel. The room, while not the largest, was comfortable and clean; and the en suite was one of the best I have seen.
Two things make this hotel stand out from the crowd; the service and the food. Hard to say which was best, as both were of the highest quality.
The staff could not have been friendlier, or more helpful. From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out, nothing was too much trouble for them.
We stayed at the Charles Cotton on a dinner bed and breakfast basis, and the dinner that night was excellent. From the bubbly to begin with, right through to the gaelic coffee to finish, neither of us could fault it an inch. Whats more, we enjoyed waht we both agreed was the best steak we had had in years (cooked by a chef who knows what medium rare actually means). The dining area was quiet and romantic too. In short, we could not have wished for a better evening.
The experience continued the following morning with an excellent breakfast (choice of continental or full English) in a now bright and airy dining room. My wife also pronounced a verdict of "very good" on the coffee, and she has the bar set quite high in that respect.
This was the middle night for us of a three night tour of the Peak District, and I have to say that this was by far the best of the three nights.
Would we stay there again? No, because thats the wrong tense. We WILL, without any doubt, stay there again. Our sincere thanks to all the staff for a wonderful stay, and I recommend this hotel most strongly.

Like so many other people, it seems, we too stayed on a Groupon deal. Although the place had been exceptionally busy earlier in the day, serving loads of Sunday lunches, by the time we were able to check in things had calmed down a lot and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We had Room 6 which, despite what had been written in one or two previous reviews, turned out to be just fine. It had lovely views over the village and was really quiet. Decent bathroom, clean and large enough - you couldn't really ask for more. The evening meal was exceptional - superb dining room, top quality food, and served with a smile! The breakfast was equally good too. Go with an open mind - you won't be disappointed!

We have just returned home after staying one night on the Groupon deal. We are from Derbyshire so know the area well and normally would return home after a days walking. So pleased friends found this little gem for us. Great room, friendly staff, Champagne reception before dinner, lovely meal and great breakfast this morning. All you would expect from a typical Derbyshire welcome. We would recommend that you give it a try!

We booked at table for 1.30pm, on 27th march, having been advised this would miss a large party booked in earlier. We arrived at 1.15pm and were shown to our table. After chasing a waitress for menus, and the again to order, we waited until 2.00pm before asking a waiter if our order was coming, he said 5 minutes. after 4 other staff visited out table to say 5 minutes we noticed other tables which had arrived after us being served. At 2.25pm we asked the manageress what was going on, she said 'life is too short to worry about waiting for a meal, at 2.35pm we walked out!!!

We just stayed one night with a Groupon voucher. All the staff were very welcoming and the food was excellent. The handcut chips that came with the steak were really tasty. Breakfast in the morning was good too.

The room was nice; the bed very comfy, but the bath/shower combo a bit tricky to use without spilling water everywhere.

All in all, we'd definitely stay again.
