My wife and I visited the Peak District last weekend and stayed at this hotel for two nights. It is located in the quiet and picturesque village of Hartington. On arrival we received a nice welcome and were immediately shown to our room which was immaculate. We ate in the Restaurant shortly after arrival and the Sunday roast was excellent and reasonably priced. The bar was good with a nice open fire and drinks were a good price. We slept well in our room and the shower was great - good water pressure and plenty of hot water. We ate breakfast which, whilst not quite as good as the evening meal, was adequate and set us up for the day. Staff were all friendly and very helpful, particularly Pierre who worked in the bar.
The Hotel is situated about 9 miles outside the beautiful town of Buxton and near Bakewell and Matlock. We also visited Castleton which was stunning.
I would highly recommend this hotel, this was our first trip to the Peak District and left us wanting more.

We got married in Hartington on 5th August 2013, we stayed at the Charles Cotton as did most of our guests, others stayed elsewhere in the village. I have to say from the first moment we approached Judy we have had nothing but a fantastic response. The detail and care Judy and her team showed helped make our day so very special. The food was stunning so much so our 60 guests gave Head Chef Simon an impromtu round of applause.

We took advantage of the hotel's "Sunday Stopover" which offers a great rate for dinner, bed & breakfast. Everyone working at the hotel is friendly and efficient, beginning with the person who took our last minute booking by phone. The lounge/bistro where we had dinner is very inviting; the restaurant where breakfast was served the next morning is beautiful. Dinner was good, although not exceptional; breakfast was very good. A good night's sleep was assured by the comfortable bed and quiet room.

The hotel is located right in the middle of the Peak District, with walks, cycle rides or tours by car at your doorstep.

Room Tip: Room 1 is comfortably generous size for two (although the shower is quite small) and is quiet even though it overlooks the square.

We have just had a 1 night stay at the Charles Cotton Hotel. Our room was a family room No 1 and had an excellent view of Hartington. The room was lovely and the furnishings a very high standard. We ate in the bistro and the food was fantastic as was our breakfast in the morning. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely visit again. Thankyou for a lovely time.

Recently at short notice we had to search for alternative accommodation for ourselves & our dog.
On ringing the Charles Cotton I was dealt with both quickly & efficiently booked in one of their dog friendly rooms. Room in the cupboard for our dog Snoopy's sleeping crate gave us just what we needed. He was allowed to sit with us in the bar at meals & for a drink. Staff were more than warm, friendly & accommodating. Breakfasts gave a great choice and enough to set you up for the day. Rooms clean, warm & well cared for.
Would recommend & use again.

Room Tip: Dog friendly rooms out of hotel by carpark ideal for coming & going late still night & early morning with the dogs needs
