“Shame about the bill”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

We stayed in this very charming hotel for two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary - the welcome and food, drinks and service was fine, and although the room was ok, the en suite was fairly ordinary. Sadly when it came to the bill there had been an error, and I had to produce an e mail confirmation to qualify the deal I had been given - always a poor end to a lovely stay - embarrassing for both parties. Overall no other issues, although the entrance to the car park is a little tight!

Room Tip: Ask about the en suite, if possible inspect before hand.

Enjoyed our stay overall. Good food.
Room 1 is a lovely room but is sadly let down by a poor en-suite. It's tiny size might have been acceptable if it didn't have a chipped toilet seat and it had a pristine shower(not only was there mould around the taps,on the tile grout and the handle on the bi-fold door that you have to touch to open was grimy). An update is sorely needed. Certainly not what I would expect for the £100+ price.

3 of us staying for one night to go walking. The rooms were good and clean. The food was delicious. The only, but, significant concern was the very slow service. Finding staff was often a problem. Two coffees and a coke 40 minutes ? The bar wasn't busy. Evening meal ordered at 7.50 served at 9.00. A blonde lady asked us if we were okay - we said we would be if the food had arrived. She looked unconcerned and wandered off. We will return a s it was in the perfect spot but some work needs to be done on the service. There is a difference between relaxed and too casual.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 11 which was lovely and cool on a hot day. Despite a window opening on to the main...

Ours was an adult family get together. We booked the Sunday Stopover which at £99 per couple is fantastic value. We all enjoyed dinner,it far exceeded our expectations; I had lamb which was cooked perfectly...pink.We found the staff very friendly and helpful.Breakfast again another pleasure.I would like to add as well how much I liked the dining rooms, full of character.
I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, and, would definitely stay here again.

We had a 2 night stay early in July, excellent value for money we had a family room for extra space and it was decorated to a high modern country standard but the small bathroom let it down slightly. We also ate at the hotel restaurant both nights which I would recommend. The whole hotel had a charming homely free set in a beautiful country village, would return again

Had a great time, generally excellent, friendly staff and great braskfasts (can;t comment on evening meals as ate out and about each night) The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was when i turned up a staff member stated that the room just across from me would be allocated to my friends and that didn't happen, instead a young amorous couple were allocated the next room who I didn't have the heart to interrupt... (most people staying were middleaged or older when I was there)

We recently had a weekend in the Charles Cotton Hotel, it exceeded all of our expectations. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff. The room was fabulous 5* quality. The hotel was in itself a place of interest with a beautiful formal dining room as well as a Bistro and bar. We found the food of excellent quality, and difficult choose, as the menu was so delicious. The village was interesting and the cheese shop a revelation. Walking took us through some lovely scenic areas. The weekend went all to quickly. We would like to extend our thanks to Judy & the staff who helped make it so enjoyable.
