We recently stayed overnight at the Charles Cotton Hotel on their 'Sunday Stopover' deal which was great value. We stopped in room 4 which is the suite and it was a fabulous room with a huge bathroom overlooking the square at the front. We loved looking round the village and enjoyed a couple of drinks sat outside in the sunshine soaking up the lovely atmosphere of the busy little village. By evening the village was very quiet and peaceful and we enjoyed a lovely 3-course meal in the restaurant which was part of the deal. Next morning breakfast was lovely and great not to have to check out until 11am. All the staff were very pleasant, chatty and helpful even though during the day the hotel had been very busy. Thank you to all involved, we can't wait to return for a longer stay.

This lovely hotel serves the most amazing food and has a warm welcoming atmosphere .
We stayed with our dog who was welcome in the bar area .
Also a great walking area .
Staff were very helpful and friendly the only down side is that we only stayed for 1 night I could have easily stayed for longer

This is a beautiful location. The hotel is small but friendly. They have music on Friday nights good quality mostly locals but a chance to talk to them and join in. Great evening. Reasonable range of wines and beers and the food was well cooked although service was variable. The hotel has been refurbished but small elements still need attention. Overall an enjoyable stay and good value. Would recommend it as a base for exploring Peak District. Wonderful scenery and interesting local villages and towns. Do visit the Plague Museum it is fascinating and strangely uplifting. Thanks to all we really enjoyed our stay. Diana

Room Tip: Facing rear is quieter but front more picturesque.

Stayed here in May for my wife's 40th and had a great weekend. It is a small but charming and cosy hotel in middle of the beautiful village. Room perhaps needed a little work on it but was en suite with a view of the square. Breakfast was was a tasty full English but there was a varied choice such as smoked salmon etc. We had one evening meal which was brilliant too. Lamb cooked to perfection. We were lucky with the weather which was sunny and completed one of the many walks round the countryside. Also try the cheese shop. A must. Overall a great hotel and would return.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary. We had the suite which was absolutely amazing. The decor and fabrics were sumptuous with excellent complimentary beverages. The bathroom was enormous. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I have a lot of dietry needs but nothing was too much trouble to cater for me. The food was delicious and freshly prepared. The village was lovely the antique shop and church are well worth a visit.

We stayed in this very charming hotel for two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary - the welcome and food, drinks and service was fine, and although the room was ok, the en suite was fairly ordinary. Sadly when it came to the bill there had been an error, and I had to produce an e mail confirmation to qualify the deal I had been given - always a poor end to a lovely stay - embarrassing for both parties. Overall no other issues, although the entrance to the car park is a little tight!

Room Tip: Ask about the en suite, if possible inspect before hand.

Enjoyed our stay overall. Good food.
Room 1 is a lovely room but is sadly let down by a poor en-suite. It's tiny size might have been acceptable if it didn't have a chipped toilet seat and it had a pristine shower(not only was there mould around the taps,on the tile grout and the handle on the bi-fold door that you have to touch to open was grimy). An update is sorely needed. Certainly not what I would expect for the £100+ price.
