“Good find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 October 2013

We were prompted to visit this cafe/art studio having seen the reviews on tripadvisor, and were pleased we did. It's virtually opposite the "pay" car park just up from the main square in Hartington. We dropped in for a coffee and cake at the start of our walk. At that time in the morning, the sun wasn't shining on the outdoor seating so we stayed inside and had a look at the artwork while enjoying our home-made cake! At the end of our walk, we had an excellent lunch while sitting at one of the outdoor tables in the warm afternoon sun! I would sum this place up as offering an interesting, good quality menu, with VERY friendly service. Definitely one to return to!

“Great ice cream”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2013 via mobile

Great little cafe at the start to a 5 mile walk (or end in our case) with very friendly staff. Ice creams here were great and declared one of the best ever by the younger members of the family

“Ultra friendly, small but perfectly formed menu, interesting artwork”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2013

Stumbled upon The Rook at the end of our first walk on a recent visit to The Peak District - and what a great find! Excellent choice of food and drinks served efficiently, attractively and with great enthusiasm and friendliness. Cakes are irresistible too. Great selection of take away meals for heating at holiday accommodation a great idea. Lovely mix of seating choices and some great artwork on view and for sale. Would not hesitate in recommending and will definitely re-visit on our next trip to the area.

“Restaurant quality at a great price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2013

An intriguing combination of art galley and cafe situated just off the main square in the attractive village of Hartington. The menu is varied, high quality and reasonable priced with plentiful portions served by a friendly and knowledgable staff. The vegetarian menu is well thought out and highly recommended for its different options and is a refreshing change to the usually predictable, bland and overpriced offerings from many pubs and restaurants in the locality.
A visit to The Rook is definitely recommended when in the area.

“A great find in Hartington”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2013

A group of 8 of us, including a small child and a toddler at lunch at The Rook in Hartington last week and would all highly recommend it. We walked there from Mill Dale, and The Rook is perfectly situated just as you come in to Hartington on the footpath.

We had a range of different food from soup / paninis through to "Lamb in Boddingtons with black pudding (£7?)" all of which was excellent, used lots of local ingredients, and was very reasonably priced.

Lots of space and quirky inside (it's a local art gallery too), but also with outdoor seating.

We will definitely go back.
