Stayed at this bed and breakfast for one night over the weekend. Firstly the good points - The room was super clean and although not decorated to my taste it was very cosy. The bed was excellent - very comfortable, and the bathroom was fine. I can’t complain about the room at all. The location was convenient for Oban. The breakfast was pretty good, there was an extensive choice, and included some nice touches such as home made bread, lovely yoghurt and eggs from their own chickens.
The bad points.
The two complementary bottles of water in the fridge had broken seals, and had been refilled. I found this pretty disgusting. They were plastic bottles and the labelling was intact so the bottles had not been sterilised.
I’m very aware that the owner will read this and don't particularly want to hurt her feelings. However, I found her really quite rude and overbearing. I don’t appreciate it when someone asks me a question, then talks over the top of my answer. It is also very rude to ask people questions (and not listen to their answers) in order to lead the conversation back to you/your family/your holiday etc, so you can show off. Also, Please don’t ask what hotel I am staying in (at a future holiday), then check trip advisor and smugly tell me that the hotel that I’m going to stay in is of a poorer quality than the one that you are going to stay in... It’s not nice to be insulted by someone you are paying for a service (especially when they are wrong…). Also I found it inappropriate to tell a guest how much commission late rooms take, and to tell me that the money you make from the B&B just covers the mortgage and no more...
Anyway, I'm exhausted just thinking about this experience. The accommodation was fine, the hospitality was not. I'd go elsewhere.
