What an amazing property! We chose Barcaldine Castle as we thought it would make for a memorable stay during our UK holiday and we weren't disappointed. The Castle was the perfect retreat as the Scottish winter served up lashings of rain and chilly winds, and Ronnie and Liz were wonderful hosts.
We loved learning about the history of the castle - from the hidden passages to the bottle dungeon - and appreciated the quirky features of our rooms like the turret dressing rooms and fortress style windows - as well as the 21st century touches like heated bathroom floors and DVD players.
Breakfast was fantastic - from the salmon and eggs through to the haggis and porridge and we really appreciated Ronnie's tips on local restaurants and sight seeing.

We just happened across this castle on the internet whilst looking for somewhere different to go. It is in the middle of nowhere and you need a car to go out in the evening but it is really a treat for a night or two. The Breadalbane Room was tastefully decorated and spacious, there were good hosts and breakfast was very good. A nice touch to leave some munchies in the room in the form of crisps, biccies etc. Lovely views.

Room Tip: Not sure all rooms are quite as nice but we had the Breadalbane Room which was lovely.

We stayed here for the final night of a 3 week hillwalking holiday in Scotland. Ronnie and Liz were brilliant, very professional and approachable. We stayed in the Breadalbane room which was great, clean, comfortable and well worth the money. There is no bar here because it is actually a B&B and there are no places to go in the immediate vicinity because of its location but Oban is about a 15-20 minute drive or taxi ride if you want nightlife. Bring your own beers etc and they will provide glasses and ice etc. The food was excellent and the staff in the dining room were super pleasant. I cannot fault the place and we will be back one day. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately our relatively late booking for an early September visit meant we could only stay the one night in the Barcaldine room. With only the five bedrooms the service ensured you were treated as an individual. This wonderfully restored castle with its tastefully appointed rooms filled with well chosen antiques was just a joy to stay in from arrival to departure. Ronnie's welcome chat settled us in from the start and our room included a 5 star selection of complimentary goodies to satisfy our every need. The spiral staircase to get to your room may not be suitable for all but with small overnight bags it presented no problems. Although only high tea is served in the castle, the recommended Hawthorn Restaurant nearby served us an excellent dinner. A freshly cooked-to-order Scottish breakfast in the morning at our selected time set us up well for the day's long drive ahead.

Absolutely wonderful place! If you want to experience a Scottish castle like it's your very own, warm your feet next to a smoking log fire, eat great local produce at the nearby Hawthorn, avoid the crowds that you'd get with the more pretentious places, and enjoy genuine friendly hospitality from Liz and Ronnie, then this is the castle for you. Perfect in every respect, cannot be faulted. We will be back for sure!

From a warm welcome from the management team Liz and Ronnie to beautiful rooms with views and a real part of Scottish History we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in late September. We were travelling with two American relatives and occupied the Argyll and Barcaldine Rooms. Both rooms are beautifully decorated and absolutely spotless - we all had one of the best night;'s sleep in a long time! The location is exceptional with beautiful views from the castle and the gardens. Liz and Ronnie gave us the history of the castle and even showed us the 'hidden' passageway and the bottle dungeon. Topped off with individually prepared Scottish breakfast served in the great hall - what could be better. We would highly recommend the castle - Scottish hospitality at its best. Thank you Liz and Ronnie - you made it special.

Room Tip: We were lucky enough to be shown all of the rooms in the castle - each has it's own individual c...
