Visiting Chiang Mai was a nice balance to our week in the islands. We were lucky enough to catch Peter, Pai and daughter Isabel before they left for their respite in Spain, resulting in The Secret Garden's closure for two months. Once you stay here, you will see why they need a break-- all three of them work around the clock as a family making sure every guest feels at home. This starts with a pick-up from the airport, "cold ones" in the Sala once you drop off your bags, and a home cooked authentic Thai meal every night you choose. Breakfast is provided, and dinner is VERY reasonable. (Also received an email after we left with all of Pai's recipes.)
Try to plan your visit to Chiang Mai around the Sunday Market in Old City- this was one of the highlights of our trip. It was also magical waking up early and riding the bikes they provide through the villages and secluded marshlands.
Staying at the Secret Garden was relaxing, but close enough to town that if you want to be included in the action, you can easily make it happen. If we ever find ourselves in Chiang Mai again we will surely return to the Secret Garden. Thank you for an incredible stay!
