onderful place to stay to see the Northern Lights and sample snow based activities. Rooms are small but very clean and warm. Everything else is great - the welcome, the food, the friendliness, care and helpfulness of the staff especially Mina. The homemade bread was a treat and am armed with the recipe for their fruit loaf. We saw the lights too!

The accommadation is basic (but we were there to see the northern lights, not lounge around to use the facilities!) although it would have been much better if the room is slightly bigger and we have a table and an extra chair for both of us to sit down together.
Mina was very harrassed as we seem to be there at a busy time but she is unfailingly polite and will always answer your questions.
The food is good.
We especially liked the home made breads and soup while we could take or leave the main course. (moose, both days)
There was supposed to be a sauna but we never found it!

Room Tip: We were told there was a suite but we were too busy to check it out

We arrived by train from Kiruna. An easy walk in snow and cold temperatures to the hotel. Warm welcome at reception and quick check in. Nice double room, not large but met requirements. Minus 10 outside but warm and cosy inside. Large lounge area with TV, books and games. Free WiFi which is always a bonus. Had a 3 course dinner which was tasty especially the moose ragout!! The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable.

Only stayed 1 night so other than a visit to the Sky Station we didnt do any other activities, just chilled out . Other people were off on lots of different planned activities including snowmobiling, dog sledding.
Loved our stay and would definitely visit again. Well recommended.

This is how hotels should be - warm, welcoming, terrific food, helpful staff (thanks Sara and Lisa) in an amazing location with exhilarating activites right on your doorstep. Yes the rooms are small and tight for space (if you have large cases) but they are warm, clean and functional ... and this is all about location, location, location.

We booked quite well ahead through booking.com for 990 SEK pn for 2 ppl (breakfast included). We emailed the hotel direct who sent prices for the trips we wanted to do and they booked these for us - 2 hr dog sledging (1095 SEK pp), 2 hr snowmobile trip (1100 SEK pp), guided night walk (425 SEK pp) and the aurora sky station (790 SEK pp includes transport to/from). You have to do these things once!

We travelled to/from Abisko on the overnight train from Stockholm - if you wait until 3 months before departure to book this online (www.sj.se) you can get less flexible but more competitive prices. It really added to the adventure, however leave plenty of time between due arrival time in Stockholm and any onward travel as our return train arrived 3h20m late in Stockholm and we only just made our flight!

The aurora borealis was stunning for the 3 nights we were there (13, 14, 15 Feb) which made the trip truly amazing ... you might not get so lucky, but it is known as the best place in Europe to sight the lights. Go for it!!

Room Tip: There is a small number (about 3) of slightly larger rooms which you can request.

I'm a little torn on how to rate this since the hotel is excellent but the rooms were tiny and basic!
As many people have mentioned, this is a mountain lodge, and I hadn't quite understood that this meant the rooms were a little like private dorms in a hostel. i.e. nothing wrong with them, but more functional than anything else. We ended up with a twin room (top tip: check your booking as we realised on arrival ours stated double/twin) which was L-shaped, each bed was at opposite ends and we couldn't even see each other once in bed! Bathroom was basic but clean. Like other posters also state, there is very little space especially for wet/winter kit. If you can't hang it up on the hooks it'll have to fit on the single chair!! (Unfortunately we had big rucksack which wouldn't fit under the bed but imagine suitcases would) This is probably not an issue in the summer. The room was warm all night and it was very quiet in the hotel despite it being full.

The flip side is that the rest of the hotel is brilliant. And you don't head up this far north to sit in your hotel room all day!! We had been hoping to go to the aurora sky station but arrived in the middle of a snowstorm which meant that not only was the sky station shut, but that the very short walk from the train station to the hotel was a bit of a mission! We spent a very relaxed evening in the comfortable and cosy lounge/lobby which has free wifi, board games, magazines, and a puzzle! (And a tv, which we were happy to have 'off').

The sauna and sauna lounge area is excellent and definitely worth using. There is a ladies and mens, but as it was so quiet we went in the same one. Later a man arrived with his daughter and they took the other one. Very relaxed.

There was only one choice for dinner, which we didn't fancy and it wasn't particularly cheap either. The only alternative is to visit the shop which closes at 6pm. This is well worth noting if you wish to purchase snacks or alternatives!! Breakfast was simply fantastic - a good selection and fab quality. Free teas and coffee throughout the stay make this an excellent base for exploring Abisko. I would stay here again - but specify a double bed in the room.

Room Tip: I would probably book direct with the hotel rather than through a travel site to ensure we got a dou...

We had booked in for a few nights after staying at the Abisko tourist station( Hotel and hostel) and I am sorry to say I was very disappointed after the great reviews on TA.
We had a twin room which was very small, like a previous viewer said once you had your cases in the room was full. Add to that hanging your coats on the hooks and there was absolutely no storage room.
When we were there it was - 35 and the rooms were difficult to keep warm. All rooms are off a long draughty corridor. I beleive this place used to be a hostel and the rooms are of the same material of a potokabin. ( Maybe this is why there are no photos of hte bedrooms on the hotel website). The main building the main feature is a huge television, presumably to make up for the lack of any log fires. I felt lacked atmosphere. No views at all from the hotel.

We had booked Dog sledding but this was cancelled on the day, I think it was due to the weather being too cold but we didn't know why, maybe it was because we had left the hotel by this time back to the warm Hotel/hostel.
Like others have said manage your expectations, and it will be ok.

I stayed two nights as part of longer trip. Please remember this is a mountain lodge so the rooms are basic and my experience was different to others in that my room was all made up and no additional charges for bedlinen and towels but I was part of a pre booked trip so you may need to check this - they are really just somewhere to sleep and shower as you are out most of the day exploring the beauty of the setting the lodge is placed in.
The staff are welcoming and friendly, they could not be more helpful . There if you need them but not intrusive . The food is out of this world - all local produce - no a la carte just a set menu (there is a veg option ) but given the quality of the food who would notice! It is pricey by British standards but not by Swedish and actually you would probably pay a lot more in Britain for that quality and specialist local produce. So no it was good value !
Lots of activities that they can help you book.
Most are there to pay night visit to the Sky Station Aurora watching. This is where you need the clothing that is essential as you are at least 20 minutes getting to the top at night, in well below zero temperatures that plummet as you ascend - just think of the light show when you reach the top that will keep you warm!
The late night snow show walk to the top of a hill for Aurora watching was for me the highlight. Knowledgable local guide and the hot lemonade he gave us was to die for. Oh and the Aurora show was even more spectacular than up at the sky station.
The public seating areas are of excellent standard - comfy sofas and chairs - coffee and tea on tap for staying guests.
If you need warm clothing they can hire to you I think, but I took my own
You have all the comforts you need in the wild with a bit of luxury to come back to in the evening.
Gets well booked so you might need to plan well in advance. Can be accessed from Kiruna by train - lodge is less than 5oo yards from the halt but you dont know the line is there.
Well worth the trip !
