My wife and I have been to Tequila three different times and stayed in three different places. La Cofradia is, without a doubt, the nicest and most interesting place we have ever been to, most certainly in Tequila. From the quality and uniqueness of their rooms to the service we received while there, not to speak of the quality of the food and drink, this place is beyond extraordinary.

The rooms are unique in every way, right down to the showers having 6 shower heads (do we really need this many?). Clearly, we were made to feel like we were the "King and Queen" of the world. While on their day tour, Erika even went so far as to find us to give us a cell phone in the case we had any emergencies during our stay at the facility, or I guess, even a problem in town. She said that we should use it anytime day or night, if necessary. Wow! (I am not sure if this is their normal policy, because I have never heard of such a thing, anywhere...Wow!)

I happen to be a tequila lover, perhaps not quite an aficionado of the juice, but I certainly know enough about it to know quality stuff from the alternative. La Cofradia produces numerous labels of tequila, and all I can say is that their quality tequila excels beyond the others in town. I have been on many of the tours offered in Tequila, Jalisco, and again, La Cofradia's tours, both their day as well as their night (kind of an eerie experience) tours, are extraordinary. Their entire process of manufacturing tequila is quite a "hands on" process rather than an automated system like some of the others, making the experience much more interesting. They even have a full laboratory, checked almost every day by the Government, to verify alcohol contents, and quality of their all natural tequila products.

I didn't mentioned their "Traberna" and won't elaborate on it much, other than to say, when you learn more about the history of Trabernas, you'll really appreciate this huge underground room, which I consider a sophisticated cave, where food and drink come together to form peace and harmony. This is a very cool place to visit, and where the tours end up, happily so!

Unless you have been to this hotel (I call it a park), you just can't understand, but once you have been, you'll want to return. We were just there the 29th and 30th of June 2013 and will be back the 1st week of December.

One additional fact, or perhaps a concern, is that there are only four rooms, and so we worked with our own schedule to get a reservation. They are in the midst of increasing the number of rooms, and rightfully so, they'll fill them.

Visiting Tequila, Jalisco should definitely be on your "Bucket List" and if you go there, you'll miss plenty of the experience if you don't stay at La Cofradia!

Room Tip: There are only four rooms, and each one is uniquely different. Plan your trip as far ahead of time...

We recently made our first trip to Tequila and made this our home base. It's a little hard to find if you're not sure where you are going. We arrived at night and our GPS was not sending us to the correct place. After asking some locals for directions we did locate the property. We were welcomed by everyone, including the owner. They were very friendly and understanding of our late arrival. The ensured we had a nice meal first and we completed the check in process in the restaurant. The owner bought us a drink and made sure we were comfortable. We were the only people staying there after the first night so we had the place to ourselves. This was a little weird at meal times as the restaurant is huge! The room was very clean and spacious. The wi-fi was a little spotty and there's no television making this a great place to go tech free! We took advantage of the evening Tour of the Senses. Our tour guide was new and clearly a little nervous but did a great job of explaining the story of Mayahuel. There is a cute gift shop on the property. We enjoyed the breakfast each morning which was included. The only thing that would have been nice is a pool, which this property doesn't have.

The hotel room was very pleasant. The restaurant was fantastic. The tour was informative.
We would definitely stay here again! We enjoyed the entire experience; from watching the ducks in the ponds to the tranquil atmosphere of the entire complex. We looked at other hotels in the area and this one was the most idyllic by a large margin. It is set off from town a little bit which make it very quiet.

Room Tip: All the bungalows are fantastic -

This is probably the best hotel in Tequila. You will find yourself in a beautiful complex with blue agave all over you, very nice and well decorated rooms and great staff. The tour of the tequila distillery was great and the breakfast in the morning amazing. I will go back.

Room Tip: If you need to use wifi the best room is the one closest to the restaurant.

First off, the staff is exceptional and truly helpful. My husband and I were visiting Mexico for the first time, and had issues with our flights, our rental car, and ultimately my phone service. To make a long story short, crossed communications with Erika (and no way to follow up with no phone service on our side) left her waiting for us at La Cofradia from 5 a.m. until when we (finally!) arrived at 3:30 or so p.m. Even so, she was exceptionally gracious and helpful. That stellar customer service became the norm at La Cofradia, as every staffperson we met was helpful and friendly.

We enjoyed a few tours with Javier, who provides a comprehensive background on the tequila making process, history and other fun facts about the area. Both Javier and Erika speak English well, which is helpful. For the rest of the staff, at least knowing some basic Spanish is very useful. Being out of practice for over a decade, I sometimes found it hard to get my point across, but everyone is very patient with the miming.

The rooms themselves are quite luxurious and the grounds are relaxing, especially in the evening and early morning. It is a truly magical little spot at night.

We also ate at the restaurant, and found the food quite good (although the music is quite loud). And again, excellent customer service. There are no english menus, if someone is looking for that. An app may be necessary unless you have a good grasp of menu items in Spanish. There was a lot of non-standard fare, so we took our chances and were never disappointed. The daily free breakfast was the best of our vacation.

Should we be lucky enough to make it back to the region, we would happily come back and stay at La Cofradia. And this time, we hope that we could be better guests and not leave management hanging around waiting for us for the better part of a day.
