The Pukeko's Nest is a lovely Cafe/restaurant on State Highway 2 near Maramarua, about an hour south of Auckland City. This is a very convenient stop for those coming from Tauranga or up Highway 2 from the South.
We visited first some years ago and wern't too impressed, however they may have changed hands, or have just got their act together, but it is now a very welcoming site. I am not a great coffee fan when buying while out, so i had a pot of tea, English breakfast while my wife had the Latte. WE both were well satisfied with the drinks. Now for the food. This has to be some of the best "on the road food" I've had in a while. Raspberry and Cointreau tart, along with a lovely take on a sausage roll was mine, while a muffin was devoured on the other side of the table.
A pleasant surprise was the price, very gentle I thought.
The only let down was the toilet Ladies/Gents. The sharing is no bother, by the way a separate Disabled toilet was provided, but it was a bit dowdy. The toilet could certainly do with a bit of a tart up.
My over all impression was pretty well pleased with my experience. Recommended.
