“Well placed overnight stay”

We stayed at La Haute Traversiere on our way back from the UK. It was an ideal location for visiting the lovely city of Amboise and magnificent Chateau of Chenonceau. The "Iguana" room was spacious and clean. The house and gardens are delightful. We enjoyed having breakfast with other guests. Isabelle's Mum's homemade jams were delicious. We would certainly recommend La Haute Traversiere for a short, or long stay. On our next trip we will eat with our hosts, as they offer a superb evening meal, if required. Isabelle warmly welcomes visitors and enjoys providing excellent accommodation.

I stayed here for Easter 2012 with my two daughters. The room for us was perfect for a family, with a loft bedroom and two single bed upstairs and a double bed and bath downstairs. But more importantly, our hosts were amazing. You would be very foolish not to eat here every night. The food is divine and wine flowed freely as we enjoyed both the company (repeat guests from Belgium) and the traditional Easter dishes form the area. It is a convenient location from which to visit multiple chateaux, by car or by bike (there is a bike trail at the bottom of the hill that apparently goes all the way to Chambord -- but really, you should make sure you are home in time for dinner.

Thanks to previous reviews on TripAdvisor we decided to stay at this B&B and were not disappointed. Isabelle and Janick's hospitality is outstanding! We enjoyed two lovely dinners and the fresh bread and homemade jams for breakfast were delicious. It was also terrific that we met the other guests staying at the B&B at breakfast and dinner.

What a charming bed and breakfast establishment! The rooms are themed and we received the Greek themed room that was clean and bright. It included tea and coffee making facilities, not commonly found in French bed and breakfasts, a very modern and very clean bathroom and its own private entrance. There are larger room options for families and I believe they also have a gite available. Dinners are offered as an option and are delicious as are the breakfasts! Be prepared for a variety of the most delicious home made jams ever tasted. The owners, Isable and Janick are very charming hosts and make you feel right at home. They are very helpful and can provide all the information you need for visiting the nearby chateaux. They are handily located to make touring the chateaux very convenient with the Château de Chenonceaux a mere 3 kilometers away. An excellent value for money.

What a find!

If you're looking for a base to stay at while you explore the châteaux of the Loire Valley, look no further! Don't spend a fortune staying in Tours or places like that, stay here! This is absolutely the perfect place!

Located just 20 minutes south of Amboise and 5 minutes from the Château de Chenonceau, one of the most beautiful of all the châteaux, this place couldn't be better situated. It's in the tiny, old, wine-producing village of Francueil (don't blink, you'll miss it), so its setting is beautifully rural and tranquil.

Basically, it's a classic 19th century farmhouse which has been very carefully restored, so that it retains its original charm and ambiance, but has all the mod cons.

There are 4 rooms, each with en-suite bathrooms and private entrances. They appear actually to be converted stables and barns, but believe me, apart from their outward facades and quaint 'stable-door' front doors, you wouldn't know it inside. We stayed in the 'Cyclades' room, which was plenty big enough, with a very comfortable bed, adequately-appointed en-suite bathroom (and, yes, the plumbing worked wonderfully, unlike a couple of places we've stayed!), and most importantly, everywhere was spotless.

Now on to the pièce de résistance of this wonderful hostelry – the food! How Isabelle and Janick, the absolutely delightful couple who run this place do it, I don't know, but I guarantee you won't find better, home-grown/locally-produced cuisine anywhere!

We stayed in August, so La Haute Traversière was full, and I can only assume that all the other guests had done what we did and discovered that all the restaurants around the various châteaux were not only packed with tourists, but offered the usual, hugely over-priced, much-of-a-muchness, uninspiring, boring menus. Consequently, all 10 of us opted to take the table d'hôte evening dinner offered by Isabelle and Janick. And we were all so grateful we did!

It was simply excellent! Five courses: aperitifs, large fresh salad, superb main course, cheeses, desserts - all local, all organic, plus all the wine you could drink (good local wine at that, and included in the price of dinner) all for the ridiculously un-French price of 23 Euros. You won't beat that anywhere, I promise you!

And then there's breakfast, which is another feast, again all composed of locally produced breads, pastries, preserves, etc, etc. Indeed, as we were finishing breakfast, mine host Janick took his leave of us, to go mushroom hunting in the nearby fields!

And talking of our charming hosts, just to demonstrate how thoughtful they are, they prepared eggs at breakfast especially for my wife, who is both gluten- and dairy-intolerant (not a good combination at breakfast-time in France!). And incidentally, if you struggle a bit with your French, don't worry; both Isabelle and Janick speak good English.

In summary, this place is brilliant! Lovely, unspoiled location, comfortable rooms, outstanding food, charming hosts, and all at a superbly affordable price.

Oh, and there's lots of secure parking on the property, too.
