La Madonnina is located on top of a hill overlooking Como Lake, with a magnificent view of the lake and surrounding mountains. It's the perfect location for celebrations, especially marriage parties - they even have a helicopter landing nearby!
But the restaurant is also perfect for smaller groups or families, and it is open all year round even if spring and summer are the best for enjoying the beautiful garden. To get there you have to follow a winding mountain road departing from the village of Barni (40 minutes from Lecco, 60 minutes from Monza), but the trip is really worth it. They have a very large private parking, which is able to accomodate even tourist buses.
The real strenght of the restaurant is its wide choice of dishes, mostly from the local tradition of Lombardy. They also offer full menus for fixed price, which are the real bargain - highly recommended! Prices range from Euro 24 (during weekdays) to Euro 32 (during weekends), including an average of 8-10 mixed appetizers, 2 first courses, 2-4 main courses, dessert, coffee, wine and water. The quality is very high, the traditional dishes are some of the best ever served in the Lecco-Como surroundings - you have to try their "polenta uncia"! And also the servings are very generous - you will literally be flooded with excellent food.
All in all, one of the best restaurants I ever tried, recommended for all occasions, even if my suggestion is to stay there for weekdays lunch, when it is not overcrowded and you can enjoy fully dedicated service and have a quiet stroll in the garden between one course and the next.
