two weeks ago on a Sunday we had a Ploughmans and fish and chips. the fish came in the form of two small bits and the chips were cold and soggy. the ploughman came with what can only be described as a Bap and there was mould on the Cheddar.
went today, the fish was soggy and mostly batter with very little fish but the icing on the cake was the so called Ham Hock I ordered came so tough, I could hardly cut itl let alone eat it, the outside was way over cooked and the inside very undercooked as for the chips that came with it, all I could taste was fish and again they were cold and soggy.

Great walk over the top from Butts brow to the village decided to stop at the local watering hole . It was ok and I feel a little out of order not raving about it as some of the other reviewers have done but it needs some tender loving care as it's a little tatty round the edges the loos really need sorting floor dirty and a lick of paint would do wonders for it. Furniture in general needs looking at as the garden benches needed attention. My husbands lager was flat and the egg baguette lacked egg ! mostly Mayo. Now this may be a work in progress and I hope to pop in again.
Will do walk again not so sure about the pub might just save ourselves for one on the next leg of the walk.

We had eaten lunch here on a previous visit to the area and it was very good so decided to go for a meal on Monday evening.
Found the staff very friendly and there was a group of men playing guitars, a violin and an accordion it wasn't loud and we found it very relaxing.
The menu was varied and the portions ample. The steak, ale and mushroom pie was delicious. They were also very willing to change the mashed potato to chips and add mushrooms and onion rings to the sausage order instead of gravy at no extra charge. However, the dish of mixed vegetables were tasteless and needed seasoning.

The only thing we disliked was it appeared to be a stop off for dog walkers and we didn't appreciate barking dogs whilst eating our meal. But saying that I would certainly visit again.

The specials menu was extremely good value at £9.95 for two courses. The a la carte menu was marginally more expensive but had a good variety of food to choose from -in fact I was spoiled for choice. The food from both menus came with a separate, generous portion of four fresh vegetables and was delicious. The service was efficient and the staff friendly and helpful. We all agreed that we would visit again if in the area.

we always like a long walk to the Eight Bells for lunch - good food and friendly staff. We only wish the toilets which are very tatty and rather grubby could receive a long overdue refit. Other local pubs with similar menu-pricing manage to provide far better toilets. It makes one think 'if the loos are in this state, what state is the kitchen in?' It's time to update and smarten up in there!
