Over 300 years old, a crackin' pub, that my brother and I visited having already walked nearly 10 miles, so were looking forward to a good pint, and that is what we got!
We sat outside in the large 'garden with a view' to enjoy the ale, which was the local brewer, Long Man's 3.8% Long Blonde, very refreshing and in excellent condition, cheers!
They also had Long Man Copper Hop (4.2%), another excellent ale, and Adnams Broadside, and the ubiquitous, for East Sussex, Harveys Sussex Best.
Packed lunch for us today, so cannot comment on the food, but friendly service.

I visited with a girlfriend on a Monday evening. The pub offered a relaxed atmosphere and had a live Gipsy Jazz group playing.. The bar staff were very friendly and attentive. The menu selection was adequate and the food portions and the food quality good. A very enjoyable evening.

Our first and possibly last visit. Necessary to ask bar staff if they could take our order. Very basic, typical pub menu. I had steak/mushroom/ale pie and chips. Steak very pleasant and I actually found one small mushroom, the pastry top was a peculiar off white!! Little or no flavour of ale. My colleague had fish and chips. The cod did not look at all fresh. He said it was acceptable, just. The table we sat at was quite dirty, very sticky and stained. Quite a mixed client, some eating some drinking at the bar. The whole bar and eating area looked as if it could do with a good clean. It looks beyond the TLC stage. Really needs a lot of money spent on the place to bring it up to acceptable standard. It may be 300 years old and certainly looks and feels like it.
