We drove to see this great castle with my family and had the most wonderful visit. There is a paid parking area 250 m. from the main entrance, short walk up a hill. Our guide was a young lady that did not overwhelmed us by dates and too much history, but made this tour fun by citing many personal stories of the resident family. The castle was built in 1241 and from there it underwent many improvements and reconstructions. When it was "nationalized" by the Communist government in 1949, the family had to move to a small flat in Prague and Jiří Sternberk, the owner, worked as a tour guide in his own property! After the fall of Communism Český Šternberk castle was returned to Jiří's son, the count Zdeněk Sternberg, the current owner of the castle, who still lives there with his wife. The tour takes place on the second floor of the castle, the owner lives on the first floor. After the tour we had delicious coffee and pastries in the courtyard.

You can get here by car or by train from Prague. We visited with cars so not sure how long the journey takes.
During the summer there are guided tours quite often as a lot of people are visiting, 1 nearly every 30 minutes. I think you can also get a tour in a different language.
The tour takes 45-60 minutes.
The most amazing thing is that the Sternebergs still live there. The owner is now 93 years old. It has a huge history and also the view from the top is amazing.

Very beautiful castle near Prague that you can easily reach with train or bus. The castle offers guided tours also in foreign languages except Czech. The tour was really nice, the guide was polite and friendly :) I was quite surprised with the prices and good quality of the café at the castle.

I didn't even know there was such a beauty only 40 mins from Prague. It's a beautiful Castle, well maintained, with 2 parking lots nearby. Recommend it

This castle is still in family possession. He owner is 93 and still living in the castle. The tour you need to get is not very expensive, but worth a lot more. The guide will tell you about the historic past of the Sternberg Family and the Castle. You will have a nice view looking out of the windows and see on the other side of the river a so called French garden or what is left of it. The guide will tell you the details.
