The Villa Mare in Lourdas is the epitome of tranquility in Kefalonia!
The studios at the Villa Mare are basic with twin beds, wardrobe, dresser in the living space. The kitchenette is in the same room, we had a fridge, sink, kettle, hot plate and cutlery/utensils and this was all that we needed as we only ate breakfast & lunch in the apartment. The shower room was clean, however at certain times of the day the water in the shower ran cold, this is because alot of water is solar power heated.
We also had a balcony with a sea view which made the holiday complete. It was perfect, you are only a stones throw away from the beach & you can enjoy the peaceful waves on the shore.
The rooms were very clean. We arrived on the Sunday morning, however our room did not get cleaned till the Wednesday. The cleaners could have come on the Tuesday as the bins were mounting up with rubbish & we also ran out of toilet paper, so we had to buy some locally. However, after Wednesday they did come another two times to had a tidy round, empty ash trays/bins etc.
The pool at the Villa Mare is lovely & peaceful, plenty of sungloungers and the pool is large enough for the amount of clients who go here. The water was clean and fresh, it also gets alot of sun as it is a little elevated from the villa. To access the pool you just have to walk up a slight hill but takes at most 30 seconds to reach.
The resort of Lourdas is seperated in two parts, down on the Lourdata Beach (where the Villa Mare is located) and up the hill is the main village. The beach area is beautiful and the beach is a mix of sand/shingle and gently shelves into the water. There are a few tavernas and cafes dotted along the strectch, however we enjoyed the tavernas up in thw village. Up in the village you find a more local atmosphere, a few more tavernas and two larger supermarkets. Our favourite restaraunt was Captain Zorbas run by a local man and his family, the food was lovely and he kept on bringing out free starters/deserts to our table. For a two or three course meal, we never paid over 35 euros including alcholic drinks. It was a lot cheaper in Kefalonia than we expected!
We hired a quad for 5 days to get around the island as we can't sunbathe for a whole week. We stopped in at Skala, Lassi, Sami and Argostoli (the capital). We also went to the Melissani Lake and the Dragorati Coves which is a must in Kefalonia.
Overall we had a fantastic holiday & would definitley recommend the Villa Mare. It was the perfect setting for a perfect holiday.
