Getting there....
We flew from Gatwick on a Thursday morning. As we live a distance away from the airport, we decided to book a hotel the night before which also included parking for two weeks. We chose the Sofitel which is right at the North Terminal and there is a link tunnel so you can walk into the terminal. Whilst the Sofitel was lovely, and the rooms and service great, next year we will stay at the Premier Inn, right next to the Sofitel (don't get this confused with the other Premier Inn, which although close, it requires a bus transfer) as it is significantly cheaper (if I had the money, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Sofitel though as it was so good...we took our own bottle of cava with us and were able to borrow glasses from the bar and ice from the machine on our floor)
As we were with Thomson, we were able to check our suitcases in the night before we flew, this was fantastic as there was absolutely no check in queue on the Wednesday night, and it meant that on Thursday morning, all we had to do was go through security, this was a fantastic perk as it was an early flight but we didn't have to get up so early to queue.
Sofitel food and drink was expensive so we went into the terminal to eat, not much choice before security, but enough to get fed.
The flight was great and we arrived in Kefalonia early.

The coach transfer was fine, should have been 45 mins but was a bit longer as we went to Lassi first (I enjoyed this as it meant we could see another resort, so no complaints)
As the Saulas studios are on the way to Skala, but down a steep hill, the coach wasn't able to take us down there, so we (only my husband and I) were dropped off at a gas station, where a few minutes later, a taxi arrived to take us the very short distance down the hill. One of the benefits of booking with Thomson is that we have always had a good service like this, we've heard of other holiday makers with different stories about another company)

The apartments
We we arrived at Saulas, the lovely Elena was there to meet us...she came over to greet us and welcome us which was a nice touch, rather than us finding our way to reception. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcome.
When booking we asked for a high floor, but obviously understand that rooms are allocated based on arrivals and departures so its luck of the draw really. Anyway, Elena only had ground floor rooms available, but offered us a choice (never happened before). We were shown room 10, which was HUGE and extremely cool as the front entrance was via a lobby, and the back was shaded by upstairs balconies. We didn't need aircon as it was so cool in there.
It was a shared terrace out the back, not ideal if I'm honest, but we were very lucky with our neighbours and actually enjoyed their company.

This is somewhere that a lot of people return to again and again, but Elena and Christina made everyone feel welcome, not just the regulars.
The pool was fine, enough to swim in and when we were there, enough beds and umbrellas.

The pool bar was great, friendly and did snacks and light lunches. Once or twice a week Mama Eleni would cook, we had her chicken in the oven and it was yummy and plenty of it too.

We had a fabulous stay at these apartments, the top thing was that we were made to feel so welcome by Elena and her team, they even put flowers in our room when we had a birthday and Morda the cleaner gave us some other flowers she'd picked another day, it's things like this that can make a holiday.

There are three supermarkets in the village, Petros is immediately next door, Maria's just over the road and another one about 3 minutes walk. We found everything we needed in there.

Restaurants
There were not quite enough to keep us interested for two weeks in the immediate area, there would be more if you were willing to drive though.
It is a very quiet little place, we enjoyed that personally.

The walk to the beach......
We had looked on utube before we arrived and had thought it was going to be a bit much. We are in our forties and reasonably fit. However we honestly enjoyed the walk as it gave us a bit of exercise. It took us 25 minutes to walk down to the beach and we never timed it on the way back as we would stop at the bar under the tree, not quite half way back, for a drink and a look at the gorgeous view. Most people we spoke to didn't choose to walk as it was so steep coming back and yes it was hot, but if you are able to find the way back through the 'secret garden' then you can avoid a good chunk of road.

You have a choice of beaches here, Trapezaki, Kanali and Lourdas. We would often walk down to Kanali and then walk along the beaches to Lourdas where there were plenty of sun beds and umbrellas for five euros.
There are a few tavernas along the beach, they were nice. The 'shack' did brilliant Frappes and also did hot (well warm) filled wraps and baguettes, so a great cheap lunch.

All in all, we had a fantastic time and would recommend it to people who like a very quiet holiday, with a few tavernas, no discos or clubs and a good long walk to the beach.

We are currently on our second day here and I feel I have to write a review. There have been a few people saying that the high ratings are a fix and I want to clear things up! We have been to Greece before and are very aware of what to expect on terms of accommodation. This definitely surpassed our expectations. It's incredibly clean, and the rooms are spacious and airy. The ladies who run the studios are very helpful and friendly. The beach is a bloody trek, but worth seeing! It's a laid back and quiet resort but plenty places to eat. Considering how cheap it was to come in high season, we are very impressed!

Just returned from our 3rd visit had another superb holiday from the moment you arrive Eleni, Elena & Christina can't do enough for you nothing's to much trouble. Barbeque/Karaoke on a Friday night is a must you have a choice from pork, chicken or sea bass. Apartments are spotless.
Eleni does a special board on a Tuesday & Thursday which is excellent and good value. Been to many greek islands but I must say this is the best place we have stayed. Thank you for a brilliant holiday see you all in September, and also met some lovely people

This has been our 4th stay at Saulas. Already looking to return in 2014.

As previously mentioned this place gets a lot of return custom, rooms either side of us were return holidayers.

The apartments are basic to say the least, but are clean as are the surrounding communal areas. pool & bar. The mattress and pillows are hard though and I would like two pillows given a choice.
Eleni the owner is a considerate host who's English is getting better each year. Christina the bar person is just lovely and Magda the house keeper is very efficient and pleasant.
The only thing that spoilt this year was a certain element who stayed until the early hours in the bar screeching & shouting giving NO consideration for other residents which kept us a wake. This is the first time however, that this has happened.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms are located at the back
